Hey Readers,

In the wake of the contest, I have since been trying to wrap up the final-ish draft of my manuscript, before sending it off to Inkshares to get shopped professionally. Expect a spring release. In the meantime, I wanted to let everyone know that I removed the old drafts of chapters one and two because they were, well, old and grievously not up to my current standards. In their place, I have uploaded a fancied-up version of Chapter One: The Smell of Rain if you would like to give it a re-read and leave me some comments.

I will not be posting any further excerpts from the book, as I'd like to keep everything a surprise until you're holding the physical copies in your hands.

Thanks for all the support, guys!

Adieu.

Hey, fellow readers/writers, I've recently written a guest blog post HERE! So, if you'd be so kind as to give it a read, that would be awesome! Thank you! Also, a special thank you goes to Jamison Stone for allowing me to write this small piece for his website!

Hi everyone! I realize it's been a while since I last contacted you, but life has been a bit busy. For one, I'm planning a wedding! Also, I'm doing another NaNoWriMo book this year, so that's been taking up some time. But at long last, here's an update! Chapter 5 is now up for your perusal.

Also, I've got a special surprise: Stephen's character sheet, using the D&D 5th edition rules! I hope you enjoy!

        Hi Everyone!

Long time no chat!  Things have been chugging away and this is a good time to let you know what has happened since my last message.

        1) The production team has been assembled.  If you visit the project page and scroll down beneath the supporters you will see who is responsible for what, as well as an overall timeline.  We are evidently 15% through the process, whatever that means.

        2) I had a conference call with my design pro, and they're putting together drafts for the cover.  A special shout out to Amanda Orneck, whose cover carried me through the funding process.  Check out her Inkshares author page for info about her own novels (one of which is already for sale on Amazon.com for the low low price of only $.99!).

        3) We have a release date (sorta)!  You'll now see on the project page that It's All Fun and Games "publishes July 2016."  I'm not going to lie - I had no idea how much time it takes to professionally produce a novel.  Again, I encourage you to take a look at the production timeline to see what's going on.  Believe it or not, it takes over two months to get the books printed after the finished files have been emailed.  Mind boggling.  In any case, "July" is currently as precise as we get.  There are rumblings that the release may be timed to coincide with Comic-con (yes, THAT Comic-con).

        4) Most excitingly (more exciting than a release date, to me at least) is that I have received comments on the first draft from my developmental editor, Kiele Raymond.  Kiele is a veteran of Simon and Schuster and a total pro.  Her line edits will make the reading smoother and her big picture suggestions have already begun to make the novel a more fulfilling read.

I'll be chugging away on my revision, which is due back to Inkshares in early December.  In the meanwhile, don't forget to check out It's All Fun and Games on Facebook and hook up with me on twitter @llabak.

        Thanks again for your support!

        Cheers
        Dave

          Look what I just finished...

Now I need to scan it in, order prints, and send them off to my longsuffering coloring contest winners!

I think prints will be a prize for another thing I'm planning, too.

          Happy Veteran's Day!

            Dear followers!

What a time to be alive!

You'll soon be able to pre-order ebooks on Inkshares for half the print book price, MST3K is coming back, and John Robin showed us his stupidly handsome face!

            What will happen next???

Anyway, here's one grainy shot of me reading at the MNSpec 2015 Local Author Showcase hosted by Conrad Zero on Sunday! Video is coming soon, they say. Everyone was very complimentary and encouraging, and I was impressed by the quality of the other readings. 10/10 would do again.

The coolest part of this event by far was meeting other interesting authors. Notably, Linday Loree, who read from her short story that's part of Twin Cities Speculations: An Anthology of Sci-Fi and Fantasy! She's super cool and awesome and I recommend you check out that anthology.

I also made friends with two awesome kindred spirits, Erika Hammerschmidt and John C. Riker, authors of Kea's Flight. They are everything I'd want out of a local author scene and MORE.

Speaking of awesome things from the Twin Cities...

            GUESS WHAT

TIME FOR A TOUR OF MINNESOTA

Today's Museday Mix: Tom Wood Edition will float you down a Mississippi River of awesome Minnesota artists. Did I mention my characters spend Episodes IV - IX in Minnesota? Well they do!

Tom is me if I were single, jobless, bearded, and believed aliens live among us. He is ridiculous.

            Museday Mix: Tom Wood Edition

Lady You Shot Me - Har Mar Superstar*
Where Have You Been - The Fattenin' Frogs**
Only Life I Know - Brother Ali
Bei Mir Bist Du Schon - The Andrews Sisters
Junkie - 4onthefloor live at First Ave***
Times They Are A'Changin' - Bob Dylan cover by Peter Jones
            Purple Rain - Prince
            Closing Time - Semisonic

You get only 8 songs because Tom doesn't enter into the story until Episode V.

            Finally, here's a serious recommendation:

Tacos. Eat tacos and pre-order Tacocity: Los Angeles Through the Eyes of a Tacophile by Rob Gokee. Because tacos.

I have some plans and events coming up, but I'm thinking I'll do a separate "upcoming events" update on Fridays from now on!

            Until then...
