Craig A. Munro liked an update for Kingdom of Dreams

Hello September!

No more being gone for three out of the five weekends in August. Hurray...

We are 5 orders away from 100! I’ve decided for every 50 new backers, I’ll release a new piece of artwork and new chapter. We are still edging closer to 60 backers and the top 10 of the contest. Once that happens, a limited edition print will be given away.

I participated in my first media interview yesterday chatting up Kingdom of Dreams with my old alma mater, James Madison University. I’ll post it here when it goes to print.

The trailer plans have been firmed up and will be filmed in the next couple of weeks come Hell or High Water. (By the way go see that movie, it’s excellent!)

I look forward to your continued support and a very productive month!

Best,

Kevin

I feel you on the order-for-order. Coming from a country with a weaker currency, this technique is a no-go for me. As for motivation, I think there isn’t any. People follow projects out of curiousity, but not all are interested in getting a copy during the funding stage. I guess we’ll just have to write convincing backer updates to move them into supporting the book financially. And of course, hope they read our backer updates too.

I think the Inkshares follower, one who is an author and promoting their own book, their value isn’t just in one potential preorder, but if they will recommend your book to their own network that they’ve worked to bring to Inkshares. Of course, people who come just to order a book and never return won’t necessarily see those recommendations, but I think it still has a lot of ’buzz’ value.

I have backed books that I find interesting, well written, and would normally read. I can’t afford to back more, or I would be, believe me. I just love books. :3

        Hello all,

The publisher Gollancz (the oldest specialist sci fi and fantasy publisher in the UK) is holding a writers festival in London next month.

        http://gollanczfest.co.uk/

I thought I’d share the link here in case anyone else wanted to come along. If you do, it might be cool to have a little Inkshares meet up as part of the festival.

I’m not sure how many of us are in the UK, but I’m going to at least one of the sessions at the festival, to hopefully learn some tips from the best in the business :)

Break out the party poppers, readers: Witherfist has just hit 40 preorders!

          Thank you!

For context, the #10 spot in the top 10 is held by a book with 65 readers. We’re so close to getting up onto that ladder now. Though I’d love to already be up there, I’m chuffed to be finishing the first month of the contest in such a strong position. Please continue to share the book with friends and fantasy fans in your local area, and we can only get stronger.

As a (dubious?) thank you, I’ve recorded the first chapter of Witherfist for you to listen to. Yes, now you can listen to me reading the book’s introductory chapter and almost hear me wondering to myself why I chose to use the word ’caravanserai’ multiple times.

I’m hoping that I can pass off any stumbles as quirks of my accent ;) Bonus points go to anyone who is not from my home city and can pinpoint where I’m from based on the accent alone.

          Enjoy!
