Erin S. Evan liked an update for Sorcery for Beginners

Friends, Readers, and Sorcerers All,

We’re coming down to the wire. I spoke with the team at Inkshares yesterday and they are aiming to have galley proofs for Sorcery for Beginners in four weeks time. "Galleys", for those who don’t know, are the final print-outs of the book’s pages before it’s sent to the printer. So we are getting close to the final version. Even as I write this, I’m reading through the manuscript and making a few last tweaks.

But for now, I want to show you what the actual Codex Arcanum looks like. This is the bookstore where Owen first meets Euphemia Whitmore and gets his copy of Sorcery for Beginners. The store has entrances at 10 different spots all over the globe, which is why it’s made up of all these different architectural styles. It serves a few other functions as well, but to learn what those are you’ll have to read the book.

Hope everyone is well, and I’ll send out more illustrations and updates soon!

    Campers!

The Advanced Reader Copies of Sunshine is Forever are slowly going out! So far we have gotten a few really awesome endorsements.

"Savagely entertaining. It’s The Bell Jar meets Chuck Palahniuk—Cowan tackles teen angst with his own unforgettable brand of dark humor." - Helena Echlin, author of Gone and co-author of Sparked

"Cowan has the guts to take teen suicide and turn it into a darkly comic page turner in an unexpected camp setting." - Malena Watrous, author ofIf You Follow Me and co-author of Sparked

"Deep, truthful, and raw, Sunshine is Forever is a book that every school library should carry. This is my favorite book so far of 2017." — Dave Barrett, author of It’s All Fun and Games, winner of the Nerdist Collection Contest

"Kyle T. Cowan’s Sunshine is Forever is a powerful examination of teenage angst, sort of a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for young Millennials. This is a tough story but it’s also one that’s filled with hope. A wholly impressive debut." - Jason Pomerance, author of Women Like Us

I hope all of you enjoy the book as much as these people have! Look for it August 29th, and please keep urging your friends to preorder a copy!

Erin S. Evan liked the forum thread, Quill vs. Self-Publication
The lovely Avalon e-mailed me to give me a better understanding of the differences between Quill and Self-Publication, so I wanted to share her comments here. This way, if there’s anyone else out there who’s not sure what to do, hopefully they’ll see the benefits of working with Inkshares.

"I saw your forum question about self-publishing versus Quill, and I wanted to help answer some of those questions. Self-publishing would probably ensure a faster timeline, and you’d have more control over the process. However, the strongest benefits of Quill, aside from working with a copy editor, proofreader, and interior designer from our side, is that a) your book will have more visibility from rights buyers (foreign, tv, audiobook, etc.), and b) your book will be listed in our catalogue for distribution, and it’s very likely that accounts like Barnes & Noble would stock copies. If those sell well, they’d re-up."

So there you go, Inksharers! I hope that assuages any fears and clears up any concerns! Best of luck in your campaigns.
