As promised, chapter 4 is now up. Its the first time Pentaz and Buscidia really get to take a break, so unlike the previous chapters its primary focus is character interaction between these two as well as Llargas Llanch. Since the relationship between Pentaz and Buscidia is the heart(or at least one of the things at the heart) of this book, its one of the more important chapters in my mind. Read for yourself and judge though.
Remember, only today and tomorrow left to preorder at the low price of $9.99. That's all I've got today, so I'll leave you all alone now. Thanks for your time and support.
That time of Tuesday again. Update time.
I'm still excited about the upcoming funding model change, and for any of you who have been putting off preordering just remember that Thursday 10/29 will be your last day to do so at the super-low price of $9.99(said in my best infomercial host voice).
Because of the change to the funding model (specifically the lowering of full funding from 1,000 orders to 750 orders) I have also decided to restructure my order-based chapter release schedule a bit as well. I'm going to slide everything down a tier from where it was originally placed. So now I'll be posting up Chapter 4 tomorrow(sped up a little so everyone will have time to read it before the change). The rest of the releases will be as follows:
50 preorders(only 10 more to reach this): Chapter 5.
100 preorders: Chapter 6.
250 preorders: Chapter 7.
500 preorders: Chapter 8.
750 preorders: the climactic Chapter 9.
1,000 preorders: Chapter 10.
2,000 preorders: Chapter 11.
5,000 preorders: Chapter 12.
Why the sudden jump at the end you ask? Well, the chapters in this book are a bit longer than usual, so Chapter 12 is the last, and I don't want to make it too easy to convince me to just post up the entire book.
Because I'll be posting up Chapter 5 this week I won't be posting a map as well, a change which has nothing to do with the fact that the map of the Zaltruscan Empire is large and more complicated than either of the two previous maps. Alright, it does, and there's no way I was going to be finished with in time for a post this week. Hopefully I will have finished it by next week, and the orders will have kept coming in so that I can post up both Chapter 6 and a map next week.
That's all I've got. Thanks for you support, keep reading, recommending, and for those of you haven't already ordered please do so. Also don't be shy about commenting/reviewing or following me on any of the other pages I posted links to on the project page.
That time of the week again. Update and map Friday.
I was quite excited to read the news of the changes coming to the funding model 10/30. I'm sure most of you have already heard of them, so I won't go into detail here. I will say though, that any of you who have followed but not ordered should order before 10/30 if you want to get in at the super low price of $9.99. Starting 10/30 that will increase due to the changes, but if you order before then you'll still be getting it for the lower price.
Other than that I don't have much to say, since I don't want to bog you down with details of what I'm doing in the background. So, with that out of the way its map time.
This week it is The Top of the World. Again I apologize for the quality, but I'm a horrible artist and this is perhaps the most simplistic area of the world.
This is the world's north pole, which I suppose in hindsight makes the compass a bit misleading. While only a few days northwest from the Dragon's Head Peninsula by boat, it is one of the most unexplored regions in the world. This is in large part due to its unusually high population of quite old dragons, as well as the near impassability of its seemingly unnatural mountains.
The hole at the center ranges from 20 to 30 miles across and seems to have no bottom. Most legends say it was formed at the conclusion of the Demon Gods' War some ten millenia ago as a result of the final confrontation between the Demon King Cirdresse and one of the twin elven goddesses Saeriscia Lataria. These same legends also claim that the hole runs through the world and that a nearly identical opening exists at the south pole. No one has ever been brave enough to try and verify this last claim.
That's all for this week. Thanks for your time and support, and keep reading.
Not much to report, so I won't take up much of your time. The orders have slowed to a trickle, so I'm still keeping my focus on figuring out just how to get over this wall and pick up speed once again. Trying to improve my pitches, come up with better marketing tools, and so on.
Other than that I've been focusing on the writing of a gazetteer for the book's world and the drawing of maps to go along with the text. I'll be posting up the next map on Friday, which is another simple one. Hopefully I'll have the map of the empire of Zaltruscas and the Frozen North ready before the end of next week, I just need to come up with a better way to represent forests than my old lollipop way(sticks and circles).
I'll leave you all alone now. Again thanks for reading and supporting.
As promised, there be maps. Well, one for now. I've got another ready for next week. The picture quality isn't the best unfortunately, primarily because I'm not a very good artist but also because my scanner is old and sketchy which forced me to go the lackluster route of a picture taken from my phone.
Just a tiny little island, certainly not much to look at. It is however the homeland to Pentaz and the rest of the Muix family. Also home to the most insular and bigoted dwarves that the world knows, with most of them spending their entire lives without ever seeing the light of the sun. At its center is Father Mountain, which the dwarves will not dig into or under since it is considered a holy site by them.
The extensive caverns beneath the island are also home to the dwarves close cousins, the gnomes who have equal citizenship in the kingdom but are rarely actually referred to as Thierdenvolgenlunders. The gnomes spend their days at inventing for the most part, typically ending their lives in the same way.
To surface dwellers it is seen as two islands, but the natives know it to be a single island. The channel between is shallow, no more than a few dozen feet deep at its deepest, and the two are connected by the vast tunnel networks beneath the ground.
There is of course no shortage of subterranean wildlife, from common beetles to the monstrous Urkan worms to the highly reclusive earth dragons. The only other humanoid inhabitants are the trolls, ancestral enemies to the Thierdenvolgenlunders. These giants have harbored an undying hatred ever since the dwarves invaded nearly ten millenia past and wiped out the entirety of their slave goblins.
This serves as the background for Pentaz, the only reality he has known before thrusting himself blind into the wider world.
Hopefully you've all enjoyed that little bit of insight. As for the project, I'm still gaining followers and looking for new ways to attract more attention to the book. Also hoping that many of you who have followed will end up deciding to preorder as well.
Beyond that I don't have much more to update on. If anyone has any questions or comments feel free to get in touch with me either here or on Facebook, Twitter, or Goodreads.
As always, thanks for your support and keep spreading the word. I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to post up Chapter 4, so I'm hoping we can reach 50 orders soon.
Tuesday already, this past week has flown by for me. Still not much new to report. Continuing to work to get word about the book out, slowly transitioning from my frantic "I have no idea what I'm doing" campaign to a more focused "I'm starting to get the idea" campaign.
We haven't hit the first milestone of preorders yet, so no posting of new content today. I'm continuing to use the time saved from not having to upload and then fix the formatting in order to work on other material. The current main project is the writing of a gazetteer focused on my book's world, or more specifically the continent in which the action of this series takes place on in said world. I'm writing it as told from the perspective of one of my favorite characters in the series, who won't be making her true first appearance until book 5 or 6 of the series. I decided the gazetteer would be an excellent chance to give a very limited sneak peek of her since she is perhaps the most well traveled character in the series, or at least the most well traveled among the mortals in the series. Make sure to follow my Facebook page to stay most up to date on what I'm doing.
To go along with this I'm trying to convert my own old, crude maps of the continent into something worth posting up, but my art skills are quite lacking. I'll start posting up the maps in advance of finishing the gazetteer so that you all can have an early look at them. First up will be the Isle of Karpa which houses the dwarven kingdom of Thierdenvolgenlund, homeland of my main character Pentaz, as well as the rather inhospitable subterranean cities of the numerous troll tribes.
That's all I've got for today. Remember to place your orders if you're enjoying what you're reading, and don't be shy about letting others know about the work. And as always, thank you all for your time and support.
Time for a start of the weekend update. Not too much to report, still getting preorders but haven't quite picked up as much speed as I would really like. I'm continuing to do what I can to get the preorders up, the slow grind of pitching and whatnot in order to bring the project to the attention of more people.
Since there won't be another posting of chapters for the project until I hit the previously posted order thresholds it is giving me a bit more time to focus on other smaller projects such as a couple of tie-in short story ideas and a sort of gazetteer focusing on the world of this series, not to mention continued editing on Books 2 and 3.
As I complete other projects I plan to keep you all updated through here during my Tuesday and Friday updates, but if you want to make sure you can stay entirely up to date be sure to also go to my Facebook page(link embedded). Also if you have any questions/comments don't hesitate to speak up either there or directly on the project here.
Thank you all for your support. Hopefully you'll continue to share and recommend my book to others, so that we can make it to the funding goal. That's all I've got for this weekend, so have a good one everybody.
Its a bit later in the day than I usually post up, but the remainder of Chapter 3 is now up. Its also the last part I'll be uploading for the time being. Other portions will be uploaded after hitting certain preorder thresholds as mentioned previously and relisted below, so I'm going to have to hustle even more to try to get those numbers up. I'm considering giving up sleep entirely in order to do so at this point.
For anyone who's been enjoying what they've been reading, please don't hesitate to share/recommend with others you think would enjoy it as well. All help is greatly appreciated, and you all have my thanks for the support already given as well.
That's going to be it for this update.
50 preorders: Chapter 4
100 preorders: Chapter 5
250 preorders: Chapter 6
500 preorders: Chapter 7
750 preorders: Chapter 8
1,000 preorders: the climactic Chapter 9
I just uploaded the first half of chapter 3. Some of you will be familiar with the final section of this particular part, since it was the beginning of a previous excerpt I had posted at the launch of my campaign. This time I've posted from the start of the chapter however.
That's all I've got for now, thanks for reading.
Sorry to everyone for the updates 3 days in a row, I usually prefer to give at least 3 days between updates so as not to flood your inboxes. This is a short one, just a reminder to everyone who's been considering ordering but hasn't done so yet that today is the last day to place an order at $9.99. Tomorrow the funding model changes go into effect which will increase the preorder price of each book ordered 10/30 and onward to $20.00.
This will be my last update until Tuesday, so thanks for your patience and I hope everyone enjoys their Samhain!
