I see an endless beach of stars about me through which flows an ocean of black space, and space is the word for it. A vacuum, a universe beyond comprehension, beyond measurement. Into all corners of that space the diaphanous ropes shoot outward from our planet. With my own I remain, and uncoil it into the darkness.

I see worlds dead, barren and rocky, others teeming with life. I am humbled by the vision, and through it made aware of the insignificance of that globe I call home, so that my own role in this timeless dramaturgy is thrown into question.

Every man or woman down meant another corpse resurrected. By the time the monsters spilled into the street there were dozens of them.

And my body led the way.

A wonderfully original novel, this exhilarating debut is an exciting addition to the sci-fi/fantasy/horror genre. Plague, reincarnation, zombies, angels, AND strong female characters. YES!

I want to take a moment to express my appreciation and admiration for my fellow writers in this competition.

All of us are fighting to be in the top 3, and all of us deserve it. I can tell from your updates, excerpts, and histories that you are as passionate about your work as I am, and that regardless of this contest’s outcome, I will have been in good company.

Good luck to you all, and thanks for keeping me on my toes. This has been a rollercoaster, and it ain’t over yet.

AFTER DEATH now has 114 readers, just barely keeping ahead of the competition to maintain its position in 3rd Place!

As promised, now that my readership has exceeded 100, I have added a new chapter to the READ section of my story page!

As AFTER DEATH is told in three parts, each part one of the main character’s reincarnated lives, I thought it best, rather than simply uploading chapters from her first life, CARA LINDLEY, to instead upload Chapter One of her second life, ICARA LIGHTFEATHER and now Chapter One of her third life, MERYEM NURZHAN... Cara Lindley’s grandmother.

With these three excerpts from the book, one can now begin to see how the voice, tone, and imagery of the book changes as its scope widens to encompass not only life after death, and other planets and galaxies, but also past and future.

There is truly no other book like AFTER DEATH. If you’ve been jonesing for a vast sci-fi epic that will make your heart race before breaking it, this is the novel for you.
