Happy New Year everyone!
Hope you’ve all had a fabulous new year! 2018 is the year I’m looking ahead. Last year I came down with ill health, which continues for the moment, but I am beginning my journey to better health. This means that the future looks brighter for my beloved Space Cat, with ideas on what to improve already flowing.
The first thing I’ll be doing is working on the weakest scenes in the novel. None of these are up on Inkshares, and take place roughly half way through. I’ve always found the middle of a book in progress the hardest to get right. After that, a close look at all the character’s is in order. I want these to be real people, someone you can imagine meeting in the street. While some of the character’s may seem outlandish (again, you meet them later in the novel), I want to dig below their surface and bring forth the real character that hides below the facade. I find this in itself to be reflective of reality. Almost everyone has a facade or persona, be it on the internet or out and about etc. Even me writing this isn’t going to reflect who I really am! And so, by doing this, I feel like my character’s are real, three-dimensional, and not just the face they put on.
This all feels like quite a lot, and it will take some time. I need to make sure I put my health first before tackling too much.
So fingers crossed for a hopeful 2018 for all!
2017 is beginning to draw to a close, and so I thought I’d take a chance to reflect on Space Cat and the year it has had.
Space Cat began as a NaNoWriMo project and turned into a full draft novel. This year has been the year of editing, and it’s been moving at an erratic pace to be brutally honest with myself! The first half I got a LOT of editing done, but since my big house move, I’ve not given myself the time to fully edit another draft. Life seems to have gotten in the way...
As it stands, Space Cat is currently at 64,839 words, amounting to 116 A4 pages, with the first 5,000 words available to preview on Inkshares. The preview dips it’s toe into the story, with so much more happening later on that I’m dying to show you all but a) it’s not ready, and b) I want to share Space Cat into a the world in a proper format, be that e-book or physical copy! And that’s my next great challange. Where to put Space Cat?
Do I eventually try and take Space Cat to an agent or publisher? Do I go the full self publish route? Or do I give Inkshares funding a go? The problem with trying to get your novel somewhere is the uncertainty, and the unknown, and that, quite possibly, is one of the scariest parts of this journey. However, I will, soon I hope, find the courage to choose a director for Space Cat and begin a new journey with it.
Let’s see what 2018 brings!!
Space Cat has had a slow month, but don’t worry! I’ll be back on top before you know it.
In the mean time, I’ve come across the most wonderful Kickstarter, in aid of remembering the world’s first and only real life space cat, Félicette!
We need to remember that without these unwilling participants in the space programs of the world, we would not be where we are today! And these wonderful animals should be remembered for the ultimate scarifies they have made for the world.
Luckily, animals are no longer sent to space for such purposes as little Félicette was, but are now transported and returned safely to and from the ISS.
Please visit the Kicstarter page to learn more about Félicette and her importance to space travel.
Next time you are reading Space Cat, or looking up to the stars, spare a thought for those brave furry astronauts that helped pave the way to the future.
Greetings fellow space and cat fans! It’s been a busy month for me, but not do with writing sadly. I’ve been doing to major house DIY, so I’ve not managed to give Space Cat the love and attention it deserves.
However, I have been thinking about Space Cat’s platform, and have lately considered if Ink Shares is the best place to throw it out into the world! I’ve had wonderful support so far, but there will come a time when I will want even more exposure for my silly little novel.
But first, I am planning to write up a few short stories in order to get a few smaller pieces out into the public eye. These may appear on Amazon via self publishing or other similar places, but I will be sure to keep everyone posted.
In the long run, I want the best for Space Cat and I feel like I need to test the waters out and about.
Thanks for all your continued support, and continue looking at the stars!
I have news... There’s been a reshuffle! *insert dramatic music sting*
Nothing THAT dramatic luckily. Chapter 1 has now been split into 2 chapters, meaning the preview has been changed! All those lucky to have read the previous Chapter 2 preview will now notice it is part of what was Chapter 1, and the original Chapter 2 is now 3, which is hidden from view, deep in my manuscript (which I am furiously editing).
So nothing big and fancy. But be sure to keep checking the page for regular updates! I’ve you’ve not seen it yet, I have now made a little video for Space Cat, which features me talking to the camera at what I’ve been writing! You can see it HERE on my YouTube, or head to Space Cat’s Inkshare page!
That’s all for now, keep looking to the stars everyone!
Good News Everyone!
The video I’ve been promising for quite some time now is here! Finally you can hear about Space Cat straight from the authors mouth, and get a little idea of the sort of person I am! (A hand flailing, curly haired, person who isn’t perfectly articulate when speaking out loud.)
I hope the little video adds a bit more context and heart to Space Cat, as it has become very dear to me, and I am keen to make it the best I can!
Another Month, another update from me!
Space Cat is still in my mind, and now a fellow wonderful author, Vivienne Taylor, is giving the story its first official read through! The feed back from this will be valuable to the improvement of Space Cat, and put it a step closer to pre-order. However, there’s still a long way to go!
I’m busy planning how to properly campaign the book in order to get up interest. This will include the long mentioned companion video (I’ve still not set up my studio properly). If you lovely readers have enjoyed the preview of Space Cat, please do share it with your friends and leave a review! Space Cat needs YOU!
Next update will come around when the video is finally made and posted onto Space Cat’s main page.
Firstly, thank you once again for following Space Cat! It’s a project of passion and I am so pleased to be able to share it with all of you.
Secondly, another thank you. This time for being so patient! I have been hoping to put out some new updates and also a small video about Space Cat, but my life this last month has been quite chaotic! I am currently in the process of getting a house, and that has caused so many disruptions, I’ve been caught off guard! Things are beginning to settle, so fingers crossed I can get something out to you all before the big house move!If you’ve enjoyed the current preview of Space Cat, please do share it with your friends!Best Wishes,Sammy W.
