Part One

1. There is a cabin in the woods, a cozy domicile Where a family goes to visit in the springtime for a while.

The sink is filled with dishes; the stove is full of coal But now the house is empty, not a stirring of a soul

2. A bluebird flies up to the cabin, up to the windowsill Basking in the sunlight, shaking off the morning chill.

She comes in through a window that is opened just a crack She looks around the room and sees that someone’s looking back

3. Above the fireplace, there is a portrait on the wall. And if you didn’t notice him, you never would at all...

It’s obvious that this old moose has been there for a while: The painting is old, covered in dust, but his face still wears a smile.

4. “Hello, Moose Head,” the Bluebird chirped, ”How has it been with you? The bears have slept all winter long. Have you been sleeping too?”

“Oh no, Bluebird. I’ve been awake while hanging on this wall I watch the seasons come and go, through winter, spring and fall”.

5.. “Moose Head my friend,” the Bluebird said, “I sure do pity you... Hanging on that wall, year after year, without a thing to do”.

“But I’m not bored”, the Moose Head said. “Why should you pity me?” The Bluebird said, “You poor Moose Head. Just think of what I see!”

6. “I’ve visited mountains, rolling hills and sparkling river streams.
With my two wings, I’ve flown to places far beyond your dreams”.

“Dear friend, this dusty little room is all you’ll ever see In truth, I think the one who has the better view is me”.

7. The Moose Head laughs a hearty laugh, and dust shakes from his fur. “To me, the thought of seeing things outside does not occur.

For all the warmth I’ve felt here in this cabin in the snow, There’s not a place on planet Earth where I would rather go.”

“The family that stays here, they sing songs by the fireplace They snuggle close, arm in arm, with a smile upon each face”.

”I’ve never seen a waterfall or a single tree, It’s true. But to be honest, I really think that I have a better view.”
