good start for this one. Already I want to read the next chapter to see how the self-conscious, flaky Elizabeth Cole handles her abusive marriage to having a great friend on her side that may lead her into his caring arms and maybe more.

From the start, the author blends their voice with that of the protagonist to give the reader insight directly into the mind of the character. This allows the text to be more in depth as first person narration, especially direct narration, can be unreliable. Terribly Beautiful brings to life many issues facing people today, and is reflected by the direct tone of the work itself.
