Unfortunately, I did not meet my funding goal but the real purpose of this exercise was to get eyeballs on my writing to see if people actually liked my stories! I’ll keep writing but I want to personally thank all of you for your encouragement and support.
Please check out my new book Project Mars! It’s for the new Nerdist and Inkshares contest with the theme VIDEOGAMES! This is a topic near and dear to my heart as I have loved games for as long as I can remember. I still remember getting my first Atari... *sigh*
Anyway, about this story... think Minecraft meets RISK and you’ll have an idea of where I’m kind of going with the story. I picked Mars because I’ve always been interested in astronomy and I have always been curious about humanity and how different forces work to shift certain people to make the choices they make.
The protagonist is Emma Le, a second generation Vietnamese history student and avid gamer. She has been following the wave of interest that a massive media campaign with the hashtag #projectmars has generated and finds out that it’s a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) that has three stages. The first stage is a race to collect markers on the digital re-creation of the newly terraformed planet to obtain land (think of the scene in Far and Away where the new settlers have to race for land). The second stage is where the Minecraft reference comes in. The players will have the opportunity to build on their piece of land and have others experience their creations. The last stage is a sandbox RPG type game where players can create alliances and trade items for land or credits.
The problems begin when organized crime, multi-national corporations and military dicatorships see a financial opportunity and all enter the game for their own means. How can Emma, a teenage history student, going to have a chance to play against these odds? Join me and find out!!
I’ve been editing as I go now that the completed plot has been sitting for a few months now. I am adding between chapters a log sent by an Earth scientist as the end of the world occurs. He doesn’t even know if anyone will receive the message but in this way, he is giving a recorded history of the Earth and how we got to this point. I put this at the end of chapter thirteen in italics and there is a break in the plot there.
Thanks for all your support and feedback. I will be providing feedback on your books also as I want to support the writers in this community.
All, thank you for the support. Things have been progressing well...I’ve uploaded the rest of part one and have been putting together my publishing plan and putting together my pitch list. So far, over two hundred views to the site meaning at least that many have read some or all of my book! Mind blown.
All, thank you for the support. Things have been progressing well...I’ve uploaded chapters three and four! I’ve provided an incentive to my backers as I’m getting used to this marketing thing. I will provide a custom print of the cover with a personalized destiny and personality trait for each backer! We’ll see how that goes and I’ll reach out individually to friends and family to see if I can get closer to 100 backers. Then, once I reach 100, the goal will be 250 to qualify for the Quill collection.
