I know it’s been a long journey but we are getting closer. My plan now is to self publish Fortunes of the Space Sloth. In October I finished doing a quick edit on the draft. By the end of November I hope to have it in the hands of an editor for copy edit and proofing. Hopefully by the start of next year I’ll have it available for you.
In the meantime, I encourage you to check out my updated website here. Take note of the new option to signup for my mailing list (which I will slowly be transitioning to).
November is also National Novel Writing Month (NanoWriMo). I’m working on a story with a tentative title of "Cloud Cities of Venus". It takes place in the same universe as Space Sloth but with a different cast of characters. I’ve promised to blog about my writing progress every day in November, so check that out on the website.
I know it has been some time since I updated you last. Most of my writing time has been spent working on the edits for Crow’s Gambit (which will be published by Inkshares). However, for NanoWriMo I did start writing the second book in the Space Sloth series and got 15,000 words into it before...I had to move back to the developmental edit for Crow’s Gambit.
As a holiday present I have put something together for you. Surprise! The link below will let you access a short story set in the Space Sloth universe. While it does not include Sebastian or the Space Sloth it does help develop some background on that universe. It also has some holiday twists to it. Enjoy
Fortunes of the Space Sloth is in the Top 50 of the Launch Pad Manuscript Contest! I’m very happy with its performance and the apparent interest in the story.
The story was originally finished as part of the Nerdist Space Opera competition nearly 18 months ago. In the time since then I’ve added a couple short stories to the universe. Now that it’s in the Launch Pad competition I’ve been spending more time work on the draft and doing some mental world building. I have to admit I’ve missed the story and characters. It’s fun getting back into it.
As part of Inkshares’ partnership with Launch Pad the story is now back in funding mode. However, the timing isn’t great. I’m in the process of trying to wrap up the Quill goal on a separate story. So this will be a completely stress free have fun with the story campaign. Post a review or ask a question about the story. Is there something about the Space Sloth world you’re wondering about? Maybe I’ll post a short story on that topic…
Greetings followers of the Space Sloth. As promised here is an update on the manuscript’s status in the Launch Pad Manuscript Competition.
;
Fortunes of the Space Sloth has been selected for the Top 75 of the competition! The full announcement can be found here. The competition is tough. There are several names you may recognize and several books I’ve supported myself on Inkshares. It’s an exciting process and I look forward to what will happen next.
The second I have news on Fortunes of the Space Sloth I will let you know. I promise. In the meantime I invite you all to consider Crow’s Gambit. It is entered in the Nerdist SciFi contest. We’ve been knocked out of 3rd with less than 5 days left. The story could really use some caring supportive readers to back it. If you have already Pre-Ordered it, thank you (now tell a friend to order). If not, why not have a look? What do you have to lose? $1 of every copy sold goes to the Le Sueur Public Library, a very deserving institution.

Short Description of Crow’s Gambit:
Confined by the alien Sylph to the surface of Earth mankind has lost the power of flight. Can one woman use her knowledge and skill to overcome human politics and alien indifference to regain the skies?
Comments on the Story:
“We take aviation for granted. Space technologies are now almost routine as well. Crow’s Gambit poses an interesting question. What if we no longer owned the skies? I’ll follow this project with interest!”
“Best of luck in the Nerdist contest! This book looks really cool - love the premise!”
“Funding for the Nerdist SciFi contest! Crow’s Gambit is exciting from the first little bits with the essay on how the Slyphs came to appear. Tension, mystery, and classic Human rebellion burgeon an intriguing story. Support it!”
Anyone who is an existing follower of Fortunes of the Space Sloth and who also Follows Crow’s Gambit will be entered. The winner will be drawn on May 30th and will receive the Kindle edition of a writer’s guide by Angela Ackerman & Becca Puglisi (e.g. The Emotion Thesaurus).
Enter the raffle and follow Crow’s Gambit by clicking here!
For Space Sloth followers there will be another short story on the way. It is finished and just needs polished a little before I send it out to you.
Just a weekend reminder, I’m holding a raffle for followers who also follow the new book Crow’s Gambit. Don’t pass up this opportunity to get a valuable writing resource like the Emotion Thesaurus! The drawing will be in a few days so Follow now.
Readers have been assigned to the manuscript but there are no other updates from the Launch Pad competition. In the meantime I’d like to invite you to head on over to the Crow’s Gambit page (https://www.inkshares.com/books/crow-s-gambit) and follow along there as well.
As added inspiration we’ll be having a raffle! If you have never looked at these they are very useful and will be a great addition to your writing resources.
And hey, you might find the Crow’s Gambit story kind of interesting too!
The latest news on the story is that I’ve entered it into the Launchpad 2017 Manuscript Competition. I’m looking forward to getting some useful feedback from the process to improve the story.
While we all wait for news on how it ranks in the competition you may want to saunter over to my other story, Crow’s Gambit. I’ve just thrown it into the deep end with the Nerdist SciFi Contest! It’s a little different than Space Sloth and takes place on an Earth where aliens have grounded all aviation and aerospace activities. If you like hard edged science with a hint of political intrigue give it a look.
Thank you again for supporting this draft as it moves along. To show my appreciation I’m providing a link to a new short(ish) story set in the Fortunes of the Space Sloth world. It’s called "Collateral Hazards". This story takes place before the draft book’s events. It provides a little more world building and if you pay attention you might see some clues to explain why things work the way they do on the Space Sloth.
