Computer issue update #3:

Success! Laptop was returned today with all files still saved on the hard drive. I’m going to back all of them up as soon as possible and continue writing.

While on my hiatus from "Cozmo", I dabbled in some poetry ideas. Nothing I’m ready to announce as a collection yet or advertise, just some stuff that got me thinking.

With all of my notes and edits intact, I should be able to seriously return to my novel soon. Stay tuned, and thanks for reading!

Computer issue update #2—

As it’s very unlikely I’ll get my computer back anytime soon, and even more unlikely its contents will be intact when it does arrive, I’ve begun writing once more on my much older and slower backup computer. I’ll also be taking the sound advice to keep all of my notes and chapters backed up to the cloud to avoid this issue in the future. Rewriting my pages of notes has forced me to think about the story, and I feel as though some of my rewrites are even more detailed and better than the originals. So in a way, some good came from this after all.

Anyway, I’ll soon be back to my old pace of a couple thousand words every few days. Look for Chapter 3 (hopefully) this weekend, as Ben Starr closes the gap between himself and Cassie even farther. All that stands between them are a mysterious set of directions and a calendar from the 1950’s.

Thank you all so much for your support! Regards,

Thanks for the tip Tony! I’ve actually had a Drive account forever, just never considered putting text documents for some reason. I’m getting back on my feet with rewriting my notes and starting up again today, I’ll be sure to start backing up to there each time I write!

Yikes. Just read about your laptop troubles, sir. 2 suggestions:
1) A Google Drive account. Totally free option to keep your most important local files simultaneously updated on the cloud.
2) Carbonite account. Annual fee, but you can keep a copy of your entire hard drive on the cloud.
Best of luck!

Computer issue update—

I turned in my laptop today, and the anecdotal "in dealings with Apple in the past typically information won’t be recovered" leaves me unhopeful to get my old files back. Now I’m thankful that I began posting chapters online; at least this way I have my story part back. The rewriting of the notes has already begun, and shouldn’t pose much of an issue; it’s all in my head, anyway.

I could make an incredibly long life lesson post out of this. However, that would be boring, so I’ll simply say 1) always back up your important files, and 2) though I look forward to working through ever minute of it, the road ahead will be a tough journey, a /hard drive/ if you will... ha ha get it?

Until next time,

Friends,

I had certainly intended to spend this weekend writing; however, this is the time in my life when it appears I was meant to break my laptop. I’m not sure how long it will take; it’s a minor screen issue, but I’m unable to get any files off until it’s fixed. I took to writing on a different computer while I wait.

This means two things: Firstly, I don’t have access to any of my old notes, nor the beginning I’d written for Chapter 3. Therefore, I’ve attacked these new notes with a fresh perspective, challenging myself to remember my characters and discover more about them along the way. I’m pretty happy with the progress I’ve made.

Secondly, I needed specific notes and my original document to continue Chapter 3. Without them, I won’t be able to connect the puzzle pieces in the right way. As such, I won’t be releasing Chapter 3 until I’m sure I have what I need to do it right. I will, however, be working on details for future chapters, and may even start writing 4 or 5. I’m not one to release things out of order (unless of course anyone would be interested in skipping to more of the action-centric stuff), but I will definitely try to post my progress every couple days.

Until next time!

Readers, thank you so much for taking an interest in my story. Chapter 2 is uploaded and available to read. As a writer, I find my biggest struggles to be pacing and timing. I welcome all kinds of feedback at ; and am looking forward to receiving any suggestions or critiques you could offer about my Cozmo story as a whole. I feel like it could definitely use some improvements. Again, your support is greatly appreciated, and I’d be more than willing to check out your projects in return.
Happy writing!
