Chapter One

"Hey Gabe, how’s everything? What are you doing this weekend?" Asked his boss. "I am having a little get-together at my penthouse. Hope you can make it. It’s gonna be a little evening soiree, nothing too fancy, just some light talk and socializing. What do you say, you up for that?" The older man added, looking up from his papers as Gabriel entered his office, placing some files on his desk.

Gabriel knew that to be invited to one of his boss’s gatherings was a major achievement in gaining a certain status at the company, and there was no way he was going to miss the opportunity of going to one if invited.

"Of course, Mr. Nedermyer. I would be honored to attend," he replied with a smile, his green eyes shining, surprised at being asked.

Coming around his desk, Mr. Nedermyer pats Gabriel on the back while shaking his hand.

"Good! Good! Well, it’s tomorrow at 8 pm. So, I’ll see you then. Oh, and you will bring that beautiful wife of yours, won’t you? Susan has been asking about her," he declared, reaching for his coat and giving a small chuckle.

"Oh, has she?! Yes! Victoria has been asking after Mrs. Nedermyer since they became friends. She’s even visited her a couple of times at your wife’s bequest."

After a slight clearing of the throat, Mr. Nedermyer replied, "Yes, yes. Wonderful woman, your wife. Well, tell her hello for me and I look forward to seeing her tomorrow. Oh.. and you too Gabe." Putting his coat and gloves on.

"I will do that sir. And thank you. See you tomorrow then."

"Ok, Gabe.

Stepping out of the office ahead of Mr. Nedermyer, Gabriel walked down the corridor to his own office. Closing the door, he let out an excited chuckle as soon as he was out of view. "Hahaha!... I can’t believe that I am invited to one of Mr. Nedermyer’s soirees! Finally! He’s beginning to recognize my contribution to the company. Good, good! This can only mean big things are in store Gabe, next, a promotion," he cackled as he dropped down into his office chair, rubbing his hands together like a kid on Christmas day.

Shutting down and closing his laptop, he takes it and shoves it into his messenger bag. Excitement still has him on a high as he collects his coat, putting it on, then throwing his bag over his shoulders.

Heading out of his office and closing up behind him, he heads towards the elevator and steps in as soon as it opens, hitting the button for down, all while doing a two-step jig.

"Oh Honey, you’re home," called Victoria with a smile, heading into the kitchen and coming back with dishes on her arm as she sets the table.

"Yes, my love. I am home. And how is my beautiful wife today?" he cooed. Sweeping up to her and taking her hand in his, he reached down for a kiss, all while still doing a two-step jig.

Laughing at his antics, she reaches her hands up to his shoulders, patting down the lapels of his coat.

"Honey, what’s got you so excited today? I’ve not seen this mood in a while," she continued as she smiled, sidestepping him to finish setting the table.

"Well, my love. We are finally invited to one of Mr. Nedermyer’s get-together. I guess he’s finally seeing my contribution to the company, and about time too. And I guess it doesn’t hurt to have a wife, who is also a close friend of his wife," he chuckled, coming up behind her to plant kisses on her neck and shoulders. Passing him the salad bowl, she takes up the lemonade.

"Oh, so Henry has finally decided. When is it?" she asked, raising her brows and leading the way into the dining room. Putting down the jug on the table, she took a seat.

"Yes, Mr. Nedermyer said it’s tomorrow at 8 pm. Oh, and he says to tell you hello," Gabriel continued, as he started on his dinner.

"Oh, how sweet. He’s such a nice man," Victoria sighed, as she took a bite of her lasagna.

"Nicer than me?" Gabriel pouted, pretending to be upset.

"Oh no, dear. You’re the most wonderful husband there is," she replied, laughing lightly at his joke.

"Hmmm. Just what I wanna hear," As he winked at Victoria shaking her head.
