At first, I was a bit discouraged by the purple prose in the intro paragraph, but as the writing went on it became less flowery and more purposefully descriptive. It does grab you, but there are moments when word choice is almost a distraction. The writing style definitely has some remarkable potential, but I would be cautious of adding pretty words for the sake of sounding pretty or intelligent. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using big or complex words, but use them thoughtfully. Sometimes only one word exactly explains the concept your trying to express, but don't choose esoteric or exotic words for say, color description, unless it's absolutely necessary.
I will say that the style does have a sense of poetry to it, and that I can appreciate. It is definitely vivid and descriptive. I look forward to more.
Hello, everybody. Thank you so much for the support. I know I haven't updated recently, what with school and other work, but this morning I launched a highly revised, new and hopefully improved Chapter 1 for A Falling Ember. I made several changes to the core plot, hence the massive changes in the opening, and please let me know what you think. Do you like the new chapter? Prefer the old one? Send me your thoughts! Thank you again!
First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR. Jeez, it's so cool that we've come this far and we've all done so many amazing new things, and that we're planning to do even more amazing new things in 2016. I'm so glad to know all of you or have read your stories and gotten to connect with you online.
When I put A Falling Ember on here, it was for the Nerdist Collection Contest. At the time I didn't really know what was going on with this unbelievably cool publishing platform, and so I thought "why not? I'll put the first few chapters online and see."
I've gotten a lot of support for this project and a lot of exciting stuff has happened, but I realized pretty soon that it wasn't ready for preorders. Once I understood how Inkshares worked, it got pretty clear that A Falling Ember needed way more work before the idea of preordering could be breached.
I'm so thankful for the preorders and followers that I received, but I'm glad this project's now back in draft mode. I'm going to continue to edit and post more chapters and updates, but it'll be a while before A Falling Ember will start to receive preorders again. In the meantime, I hope you all will keep following my updates as I add to this project, and I'm so grateful to you. You've all taught me so much this year, and it's such a cheesy line, but I can't wait to see what 2016 brings. Keep making art, and have a gorgeous new year.
Thank you all so much for clicking that follow button. I'll keep you guys updated as I post new chapters. Your support means the world to me. Thank you.
