Eric Klein's latest update for The One: A Cruise Through the Solar System

Jun 16, 2016

Hi Everyone,

I would like to thank you for your support and interest in my work in progress The One: A Cruise Through the Solar System.

I am truly grateful for the response, and advice, that you have given.

But after some serious soul searching (and reading the rules) I am going to ask that my book be put back into draft mode.

What this means for the project?

I will lose all preorders and have to start from scratch when I do decide to sell pre-orders. Thus losing the followers and pre-orders. This means that those of you that have preordered it will have your money refunded.

When I relaunch the project the funding period will start over and you would need to pre-order again when the project is relaunched. Why would I want to go back to Draft mode?

I launched the project with only the first 3 chapters and science appendix written in order to enter the Geek and Sundry contest. And I am grateful that your support kept me in the top 10 (although I could have gotten the extra 5 sales to end at number 6, I decided that it was not possible to make the top 3 so held parts of the family back from ordering). I am far from done writing it, and doubt I will make 250 by the end of the funding period on the 3rd of July.

When the contest ended I went back to pushing the writing rather than the marketing and selling. I am now finishing chapter 8, and have about 110 pages written (and I still have most of the solar system to go).

What comes next?

I will be starting an update newsletter. It will keep you up to date on my progress and status in Inkshares, and I will be sharing some of the maps and artwork as I create them. I will try to include some relevant news about space exploration that is impacting the worlds in the story, and parts of the science appendix (think terraforming, Extraterrestrial Yak butter, and floating cities).

All of you currently following will get the first issue with the option to opt out.

It will also update you on my new website and some recommended reading from other authors (both at Purple Toga and other publishers).

Thank you again for your support, and I hope you like the final product when I complete it.

Eric

Ps. apparently you may be able to follow my book in draft mode, if this is the case I will update you in the newsletter.
