Blanket Thief

Blanket Thief

To the creature who stole my blankets

last night: I am on to you.

You shall not escape me, however

you try to. Did you think

I would not notice them at the foot

of my bed in a ball?

I espied them after midnight in said ball,

chilly air not stopped by blankets

pimpled my flesh from head to foot.

You terrible monster, you

hateful blanket thief, you think

you can treat me just however.

This shall not stand, do you hear? However

you try to justify how you think.

I’ll not be treated like a sole with no foot.

What kind of a monster would ball

up someone else’s blankets? I have a soul, do you?

It’s not that I’m angry at you

specifically, it’s just that however

They came to be there I think

of seeing me under the blankets

(which had yet to become a ball)

I had nothing exposed except for a foot

Why even put them there at the foot

of my bed in a tight little ball?

What monster would do that aside from you?

I don’t know who you think

you are, but however

you try to hide I will avenge my blankets.

“Why, he doesn’t even need them blankets!”

anyone who sees me might think,

“I’ll take them and home them here in a ball,

the proof is there in his exposed foot.

He is far too warm, however

cold the night air!” says you.

So now I sleep suspiciously, firmly holding my blankets.

Tonight is the night they will try again however

ready I am. It’s not yet time for sleep, I think.
