A syndicate championing unsung projects (in any genre), as well as those that may not necessarily dabble in Inkshares' more popular genres. Here's to the crazy ones, as that old computer commercial's saying goes. Looking especially for humor, quirky, autobiographical or just plain oddball projects to support, but unheralded projects in need of a boost in the fantasy, sci-fi, thriller and other popular genres will not be turned away from consideration.

Guys it’s been a real great pleasure being here but I’m currently cutting down my Inkshares participation to my own syndicate ...  I shall return in the future.

Thanks Billy for setting up this great syndicate !
Steven Barrie · Reader · added over 7 years ago
Do books from syndicate orders appear in your bookshelf list of books you’ve purchased? I’m not seeing Tantalus Depths in mine, so I’m curious what happens for everyone else before I reach out to support.
John Dennehy · Author · added over 7 years ago
I’ll nominate @Denise Guillot DuBois’s Mercy Me. It looks like a great book with lots of potential that hasn’t received a lot of traction yet. As a memoir, it also fits well with the syndicate theme of highlighting books outside the most popular Inkshare genres. I also like @Evan Graham’s Tantalus Depths and really admire his perseverance. My main issue there is that it’s already been backed by multiple syndicates and is a popular genre. I’d really like Inkshares to diversify the types of books that get published and see this syndicate as an excellent vehicle to push that forward. And, as a related aside, my own memoir is coming up on it’s deadline and new sales have slowed to a crawl, though I’m very close to full funding. If you have a minute please do check it out here.

Hey folks, any wishes for October? I’ve been in another world, so any suggestions are welcome.
Joni Dee · Author · added over 7 years ago
@Adam Mock took me at least 2-3 months before i felt i had enough followers to start the campaign, even then they didn’t all order (most not straight off the bat for sure). it’s tedious work this crowdfunding business Adam.. with latest Inkshares changes and ... well ... chaos, make sure you are ready for it. There won’t be as many credit orders as we used to have in our campaigns - that’s for sure!
Adam Mock · Author · added over 7 years ago
Anyone else have trouble trying to get people to follow their books? None of my friends ever figure it out. Wish there was an easier way to follow without having to join inkshares directly. Am I missing something?

I’ve finally got a legitimate cover for my book!

My long time friend, Brian Toombs, is currently wrapping it up (draft is now on my book page) for production.

Bye guys. It’s been real.

Sorry all, got laid off today. I’m gonna have to cancel the syndicate. Best of luck with everybody!
Steven Barrie · Reader · added over 7 years ago
I’m pretty excited to join this syndicate. It looks like the syndicate picks a good variety of books!
Billy O’Keefe · Author · edited over 7 years ago
I have to strongly second John’s suggestion. I really like Devil’s Call — I’m a Super Reader *and* an E-Reader, after all — but it has the support of three syndicates already. This place was set up specifically to champion books that can’t necessarily turn to other syndicates. I want our "Books Supported" list to look unlike any other. I ordered and enthusiastically recommended 64 when it started funding, and while it’s hit Quill, I love the idea of it going all the way and believe in its ability to do so. With Wrestletown gone and my other two early September choices looking like extreme long shot, I’m really into the idea of this pick. Unless there are fierce objections, this is the way I want to go.

John Dennehy · Author · added over 7 years ago
So I’ve crawled around a bit and would like to nominate @Lauren Levis When I’m 64. I’d really like to see a syndicate give some love to a non-fiction work and this looks like a great book well positioned to get funded. Wings of the Pirate also looks great.
Bryn Hagan · Author · added over 7 years ago
Michael, you actually made me blush, but thanks for the great welcome
Michael Haase · Author · added over 7 years ago
Awesome! @Bryn Hagan is here! This syndicate keeps getting more and more awesome!
Bryn Hagan · Author · added over 7 years ago

Hi guys, I just joined this syndicate as I feel it better represents the sort of work I do. Look forward to getting involved.

Michael Haase · Author · added over 7 years ago
But on a more productive and appropriate for this thread note, I’m for Devil’s Call and Wings of the Pirate. Those both could use a little boost and are quality books, in my opinion. Any other ideas?
Michael Haase · Author · added over 7 years ago
@P.H. James I kinda thought the witch hunt was over. It still feels like there are some dark clouds passing through. Bummer. @James Rasile I hope you still got to keep your fully funded status? I don’t see a "Quill Selection" badge on your page...
P.H. James · Author · added over 7 years ago
@Michael Haase Most likely due to the recent crackdown on abuse of the credit system. Evan Graham got hit pretty hard as well.
Michael Haase · Author · added over 7 years ago
Why did @James Rasile ’s Cape’s Side Bay lose over 200 copies sold?!?
P.H. James · Author · added over 7 years ago
Welcome! @John Dennehy
Peter Ryan · Author · added over 7 years ago
Welcome @John Dennehy great to have you here!
John Dennehy · Author · added over 7 years ago
Hey all. Just joined my first syndicate! I’m hoping to get more involved with the platform and push some nonfiction works which seem to be in the minority here. Hopefully I’ll be able to suggest a few good ones in the next days after I crawl around a bit.
Michael Haase · Author · added over 7 years ago
I just wanted to put Devil’s Call on the table. It’s a terrific book that has earned the support it has gotten this far, but it still remains in a somewhat stuck state just shy of 150 orders. The author just put out Chapter 3, and I’ve enjoyed everything the novel has been thus far. It’s an original on this site, for sure.
Any other thoughts?
Peter Ryan · Author · added over 7 years ago

Hey folks. I’m plugging only because I need followers on my new children’s book ‘Come Out of Your Shell’ that I’m writing and illustrating. I started in kid’s books and through publishing gaffs four books I wrote are in publishing purgatory at the moment. And if you haven’t followed ‘Crawls’ my horror/comedy, that couldn’t hurt either. Thanks everyone. You’re the best.

Welcome, mate. It’s a cool syndicate - except for Joni Dee :) and Tal can be a handful ... but otherwise ok:)
Adam Mock · Author · added over 7 years ago
Hey folks. Just discovered Syndicates and this one seemed to fit my style pretty well. Looking forward to seeing how this all works.

Billy O’Keefe · Author · edited over 7 years ago
All right. I, too, like James a lot. I also quite like his book, and seeing how close he is and how much time he has left, I’m good with this pick because it really could be the difference. So of course I’m not going to be a jerk, and of course he can have our August pick.

But after this, I’m making good on what I said last month and getting back to what this syndicate is supposed to be doing, which is picking books that don’t necessarily have a neat and easy fit elsewhere and aren’t part of that circle of books multiple other syndicates are considering. (The one exception for this WILL be P.H.’s book when it funds, and I do not apologize for that. He’s been a friend for years and I’m pulling out the stops to help him get funded when that day comes. Stating that now so no one can cry foul later.)

I appreciate the sentiment behind nudging our own past the line, but in order for this thing to grow and really have the weight it needs to do more than nudge a book forward, we have to make it inviting to authors who may not necessarily have other syndicates or circles to which they can easily turn. That sometimes entails picking books with long odds, but in a way that’s always been the long-term point to me. If this is not something you find appealing, I get that and harbor no hard feelings if you bail, but this is what I want for this place.

So for August, I’m picking James’ book. For September and beyond, I’ve honed in on This Poem Doesn’t Mean Anything, WRESTLETOWN and Our Family’s Elephant. All additional suggestions and votes and comments are welcome, but I’m hoping we can better focus on the purpose of this place going forward.
P.H. James · Author · added over 7 years ago
@Joni Dee Thanks! Billy and I have been friends offline for years. We live in the same city. He’s the one that told me about Inkshares. I’ve been meaning to join for while.

Joni Dee · Author · edited over 7 years ago
@P.H. James hey when did you join?? Welcome to the hood! Yup I nominated mr Rasile and think we need to prioritize helping our own get to full Inkshares... @Billy O’Keefe is the man of the hour here - i’m just a pleb :-)
P.H. James · Author · added over 7 years ago
@Joni Dee @Billy O’Keefe I’d be down for backing James and Cape Side Bay. I personally like the story, he’s close to funding, and he’s been around and hustling pretty good for a while now.

Should we give @James Rasile a boost for this month?  i want to raise both Cape Side’s Bay and Seven Day Dead by Chris Johnson... but the guy is running 3 campaigns so not sure he can commit to taking it over the line.... James however, can use our help to reach full...
Joni Dee · Author · added over 7 years ago
@Nicola Sarjeant trust me it’s quite recent... |sob|
Nicola Sarjeant · Reader · added over 7 years ago

@Joni Dee I think you have never been able to use credits for shipping.  All the physical books I’ve ordered with credits still needed cold hard cash for shipping.

Joni Dee · Author · added over 7 years ago
most my colleagues ordered eBooks. I have one guy who ordered a physical copy and is still moaning on the cost to date!
Matthew Poat · Author · added over 7 years ago
Wow, that really sucks for us over here in Brexit-land doesn’t it Joni. Luckily for you though, your funding days are over. I still need to convince UK friends and family (those that aren’t already sick of hearing about my book at least) to order and a lot have already said they would have preferred a physical copy but the shipping costs put them off.
Joni Dee · Author · added over 7 years ago
this is still in place (though from what i hear not for long), but no credits applied towards the international shipping...
Matthew Poat · Author · edited over 7 years ago
Cheers for ordering a physical copy to go with your previous ebook order. What’s different about the credit system? No more $10 for referrals?
Joni Dee · Author · added over 7 years ago
got me a paperback, they tweaked the credit system a bit, havent they?
Peter Ryan · Author · added over 7 years ago
Squids In is back on the funding treadmill! If you have any spare credits or know anyone with an interest in  an Octopus-based, illustrated gaming book, then send them Matt Poat’s way! I’d love to see this project succeed.

I’m a big fan of Stephen and I like Julia’s poetry. Get behind her regardless. And Stephen, you deserve it. And get behind Julia ... or did I just say that ...
Stephen Carignan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I am definitely going for full funding, as I drive across the country, I’m stopping and promoting at every bookstore!
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added almost 8 years ago
This Poem Doesn’t Mean Anything perfectly embodies what this syndicate is about, and I really want to get back to what this syndicate is about now that more  books are popping up that fit the theme. So I will be picking that in August if not July.

With that said, The Sleeping Man had my vote for June and if Stephen is going for full funding, I’d like to make good on that vote this month and give him a push in that direction. So question for @Stephen Carignan: Are you making a run for full funding or was Quill the goal? If it’s the former, I’m happy to make you the pick for July, but if it was the latter and you’ve reached your goal, I’m happy to give Julia a push 3 weeks early.
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
And if we aren’t doing Stephen’s book, check out this https://www.inkshares.com/books/this-poem-doesn-t-mean-anything?recommended=true Just the description of her book makes it worth supporting (whether now or at some stage later).
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
If I’m reading this right, Joni no longer needs our support as he’s galloping off into the 750 sunset. Stephen has nailed Quill and has some time left ... so it looks like Stephen is the go if he’s going for 750?? Or am I just dazed from all the brain-work I’ve been doing for the contest - thanks for all your help, by the way,  this is a top syndicate!
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
amazingly @Evan Graham helped find a few more readers - please get his book if you haven’t already - Tantalus Depths. And tail wind from gentleman @Stephen Carignan who recommended me to 314 followers. Thanks guys!
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Guys, can I ask that regardless if the syndicate supports me now, or Stephan’s great book, or someone else - if u have spare credits - please throw them my way... I have 4-5 more potential orders but not much more than that to bring ... and seeing the end now (sorry don’t mean to moan)

Please also use this referal - so i can attribute any orders u throw my way towards charity (3.5$ from each still goes to the  Kids of Norwood).

thanks a lot!

Joni Dee · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
@Nicola Sarjeant thanks for that.. i was very drunk last night with clients, must have pressed something by accident showing them inkshares...
@Nicola Sarjeant @Peter Ryan many thanks for the nomination - would be thrilled to get your guys backing if u chose to.. with 140 orders to go, and 5 social networks already extracted to the max - i’m honestly running out of ideas...
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago

@Aaron Frale Thanks for jumping on board. Great to have you here!

Aaron Frale · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Hey all, I realized after dabbling in inkshares, I’ve been flooded with requests "if you support my project I’ll support yours" requests. And while I’d love to support people. I really don’t have the money, student loan debt the size of a house payment, wah, wah, you’ve heard the story before. Anyway, I thought join this group, just so I can say, hey thanks so much for your interest, I support projects through this group. So that being said, Hi I’m Aaron, I recognize some of you already, nice to meet you all.
Nicola Sarjeant · Reader · added almost 8 years ago

Both Stephen and Joni would be excellent picks.  However, I’m also inclined to support Joni for July. He has only 29 days left (and hasn’t had a syndicate backing), while Stephen has 89 days (and two syndicates).  It might give Joni a good push in the last couple of weeks of his campaign.

Nicola Sarjeant · Reader · edited almost 8 years ago
Hey Joni,
Not sure if you know this, but when I clicked on your name/icon, Inkshares said "That person has asked for a little privacy. Cheers."
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Matthew Poat I’m not sure how you can actually kick a squid’s ass ... and @Tal M. Klein number 9 my friend!
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I like Joni Dee’s stuff. He’s been a strong supporter of  us all the way along and if you’ve ever exchanged emails with the man, he certainly fits into the idiosyncratic category!
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Let me formally put it out there, then @Stephen Carignan -- I nominate The Sleeping Man for our next selection.
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
ah is it? i wasn’t aware..
Stephen Carignan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I agree with the following statements and definitely don’t want to favor one of four over the other three. If only there were someone who was a scant 54 orders from Quill, really needed the push, spent hours a day reviewing and supporting Inkshares writers, and whose name was a anagram of Chin Pang Pen Street...
Matthew Poat · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Haha, I know and you’re right of course, I just wanted to get a dig in at Peter since he’s kicking my ass every which way since Sunday in the contest, and rightly so! His book looks great. Plus, any syndicate who has already pre-ordered the book won’t actually increase the total since its based on unique readers not outright order numbers.
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
i hate to be a party pooper Matt, but with 4 members in this contest, i don’t think we can make this choice to support one over the other (even though Tal & Billy obv doesn’t need our help) ... nor is it fair to ask Peter to support your book a second time, this can prove vital to the end of the contest....
Matthew Poat · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I know its a bit early to be discussing next months syndicate pick, but I think I’m going to remove Cupid by Proxy from the running. It appears that running two active campaigns is not something I have been able to pull off and since Squids In is doing so well in the Nerdist contest, its obvious which one will need to be limp home to failure.

I would love for "Squids In" to be considered though.  Your incentive is that, with your support, it might bump Peters book down to third!
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Haha! @Tal M. Klein I can hear the mighty roar!

Ok, it sounds like most want Mechcraft, so I’ll make that as the pick.
Nicola Sarjeant · Reader · added almost 8 years ago
I’ll weigh in for Mechcraft @Brian Fitzpatrick to give him a boost for his last month!
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
By the way, @Tal M. Klein and @Billy O’Keefe I’m gunning for the whole Too Many Controllers set. I want all 15 of you on my side before the contest ends. And you’ve been nice enough to provide me with  all your names on your Inkshares page! Fish in a barrel!
Matthew Poat · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Can’t knock them for being part of something that’s massively successful. They got there on account of being good and forging a name for themselves in the first place. Yeah Billy has ordered Squids In too, but I seem to be missing an order from Tal. The octopus won’t like that. Come on Tal, make the octopus happy, not by giving him ten-tickles but by pre-ordering Squids In ;D
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
You and me Matt! Tilt at windmills, my friend. Though in this case Billy and Tal aren’t so imaginary ... And yes, pretty much all of you have pre-ordered Destiny Imperfect (including Billy and Tal) so thanks to you all.
Matthew Poat · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
It’s cool that so many of this syndicates members are battling against each other in this months competition. Looks like Tal, Billy & their friends have it in the bag though, with Peter in a distant second and me likely dropping out of the top ten before long... This is my first competition & I’m entering while I have CbP live, so maybe not the most sensible thing to do but it’s all a good learning exercise.
Stephen Carignan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I concur, I will bother everyone again next month!
Matthew Poat · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Can’t fault the logic. Also Mechcraft has certainly caught my attention so yeah, sounds like a plan to me.
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Now there’s that vial of Wisdom. I’ve been a long term fan of Brian’s work. What do other people think?
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Maybe we can focus more on books that their funding end this month?  i like both books but they have 80days and 100days to go ... @Brian Fitzpatrick Mechcraft is a month away missing 60 orders to quill, i could use your boost as well - but still have time  ... just a thought as to time being a factor...
Peter Ryan · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
A tough call between those two books - Stephen’s written a great book and is an absolute boss when it comes to author support (reviews and the like). Matthew ’s book fits the quirky bill superbly and is also someone who’s genuinely supportive. Does anyone have a vial of the Wisdom of Solomon lying around?

I, like Billy and Tal, have also thrown my hat into the video game ring. I can remember playing Space Invaders at the local bowling alley when it first came out (it cost 20c a game!) -  and yes I’m that old. You can find my new stuff, Destiny Imperfect, at www.inkshares.com/books/destiny-imperfect

Thanks for suggesting CbP Billy. Things have started off steady after opening for pre-orders but hopefully I will be able to increase momentum for this (my main project) off the back of my side project ’Squids In’ that I’m writing for this months Nerdist competition. I’m also pushing hard on my LinkedIn account as I have well over 3000 connections. It’s my best and most used social network.

All the best to Stephen and his project The Sleeping Man. Once my own little man is sleeping, I will check it out (the terror just won’t settle this evening).

Stephen Carignan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Speaking of June syndicate picks, is it appropriate for one to push their project?
Billy O’Keefe · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
Hey folks. This isn’t for syndication consideration, because I’m one of the contributors, but if any of you have some credits burning a hole in your virtual pocket, Tal and I are part of a pretty cool 15-author anthology that’s launching tomorrow as part of the next Nerdist contest.

Take a look over here (and get yourself a copy once it launches if the spirit moves you): https://www.inkshares.com/books/too-many-controllers?referral_code=fd744ca1

Regarding June syndicate matters, I’m all ears. I’m still on board with boosting Cupid by Proxy and adding to its momentum early in its campaign, but if you have any time-sensitive picks, this place is a democracy as always.

@Joni Dee Haha! Though can we support a draft, JD?  I see Faith’s book is not in funding.
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Muhahahaha -thanks @Peter Ryan
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
What an awesome conversation to wake up to!! Welcome  Matthew and don’t listen to @Joni Dee or @Tal M. Klein they really are jealous types! They do, however, write rather well. Go and check out their stuff if you haven’t already.
Joni Dee · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
It’s a very hard friendship to maintain Matthew, he just takes and takes and takes ;D
Matthew Poat · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Why, do you want him all to yourself? Are you the jealous type? That’s OK, I’ll let you have him. Not my type. Too tall...
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Whatever you do, don’t befriend @Peter Ryan!
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added almost 8 years ago
It’s more than OK, Matthew. Welcome aboard!
Matthew Poat · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
Hey, this syndicate seems to house most of the people whose writing and social interactions float my boat so I thought I would throw in with you guys! Hope that is OK?
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Billy O’Keefe Thanks Billy. The designer did a great job!
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago

@Tal M. Klein Haha! Thanks, Tal. You are the man!

Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Ask and ye shall receive.
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago

Buy my book again, Tal! And the cover IS outstanding!

Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Peter Ryan love the new cover art. I second Cupid By Proxy, looks like my cup of tea.  I went ahead an pre-ordered it because I pretty much do anything Peter tells me to.
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Agreed. Also, Peter -- this page looks even sharper than it did before with your new cover up there. Awesome work.
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Cupid By Proxy looks very good. I just pre-ordered a copy earlier today.  It also, importantly, ticks the quirky box.
Billy O’Keefe · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
Seconded about Stephen’s book and presence here. Both very good things (and I loved that latest video with your kid).

One for the radar as we look ahead to summer: Cupid by Proxy.
Joni Dee · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
Will personnally help u getting there @Stephen Carignan - you’re one of the good guys!
Stephen Carignan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I hear you, I had a run before and it didn’t work, so I spent six months where I would review books everyday and just build the base, so now if everyone gets one, I will hit the Quill.
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
well if u manage to crack it - let me, know. i can’t get orders from people i don’t know it seems FB, twitter, nothing works. even got a reject from bookshop that a day before was interested. i pledged for charity if peopleorder from my friend’s referral,, nothing seems to work.
Stephen Carignan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Woot! Yeah, I’ve spent the past three days emailing everyone I know, a few people I don’t know, and random celebrities to see if they want to back me for no reason at all. Now, Facebook, then DM!
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Stephen Carignan gonna order now. missed it - u need to DM people! good luck!!
Stephen Carignan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Thanks for the shout out! I would definitely appreciate the recommendations/pre-orders, that’s for sure. If you have any doubts, I have been called the best writer in the world by literally 1 person. Some would say mothers have to say that, or she was being hyperbolic because I was 5, but I don’t really look at it that way.
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I was sad to hear about Ron’s book as well. But he’ll get it out somehow. I also see Stephen has joined us. If you haven’t gone and pre-ordered/recommended his book, The Sleeping Man, that should be your very next stop. It’s going to be well worth a read.
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Ronald D Valle I have to say I’m truly sorry to hear you’ve made that decision. I was very much looking forward to reading your book :(
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
When a syndicate picked book fails to fund the members get the refund as credits for inkshares.

We had it twice already so we had time to learn, in Thriller Night Syndicate. There was a glitch in  system but I alerted Thad and Jeremy, they adjusted manually -  and it should work smooth by now.
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Sorry to hear that, Ronald — though I won’t lose hope that I’ll get to read your book someday through some other means. I assume people will be refunded similarly to how they are for a non-syndicate purchase. And I’m pretty certain that if there’s no time to make another pick for May, the money pooled for May would just go to June instead. I’ll get it sorted if it doesn’t sort itself, so don’t let it be a worry.

Ronald D Valle · Reader · added almost 8 years ago
Hey folks, I mentioned in my last update that I intend to end the T-Rex campaign early - just don’t think I got what it takes to get to 750 and I don’t think Quill is for me. I want to know what this will mean for Idiosyncraticate. Will the group be refunded and will you be able to choose another May pick?
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Joni Dee  it ends in 9 hours! :)
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
ok sorry then, i take it back - don’t wanna jinx it (see below)... would they count, @Brian Guthrie - maybe a day to get 166 readers and take that first place!! ;-)
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Haha @Joni Dee that was my bad. I ended my campaign on the 16th which was apparently at midnight. The contest is still running, so if anyone hasn’t pre-ordered yet, you have until noon PST today to help me keep first place ;)

Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Nice one Ron! Great to have you as the syndicate’s choice this month.
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Peter Ryan @Mike Donald @Ronald D Valle guys lets help Kelsey to Quill- 40 to go, we been there...order your second... Gimme some credit ;-) https://www.inkshares.com/books/beyond-the-code?referral_code=d9c1458b
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I’ve already mentioned this on the Thriller Night Syndicate, but if you’re looking for some Chandler/Hammett-style detective fiction head for Ryan Smith’s Goodbye, Angel. It looks like a really good read. And don’t forget to throw a bit of love towards our own Ron Valle - he’s in a tough battle out there.
Nicola Sarjeant · Reader · added almost 8 years ago
I’m in favour of supporting We Clocked the T-Rex @Ronald D Valle
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Looks like if we pull the trigger on WCAT it’s going to make a real difference and get @Ronald D Valle on the G&S contest’s top 3 podium. The top three books there get the full "750 book equivalent" Inkshares treatment. So just for the sake of getting to take credit for "doing something meaningful"for one of our own  - I think it’s well worth doing :)
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Ronald D Valle Glad my common post has brought u here Ronald. now join me at "Thriller Night" and it’s a 3 pit ;-)   happy to support We Clocked the T-Rex Billy. for good order.
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Welcome aboard, Ronald! I just took a look at We Clocked the T-Rex and was pretty charmed by the page and excited by the concept. Really great work so far.

I can’t pull any levers or push any buttons until it’s officially May, but I have no qualms about this being the pick and it sounds like those who have spoken feel the same way (and enthusiastically so, which is great).

Naturally, this should not discourage anybody (at any time) from voicing further support for other projects they see and have a fondness for. Even if they don’t become the pick for May, I always appreciate hearing about projects I can support on my own or have on the radar as picks in the months ahead. I just had my first production meeting today with the Inkshares/GFP crews, and it was an experience I want as many people as possible to enjoy.

Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Ronald D Valle Welcome aboard, mate. Very cool you could join us! And I can help you with the beer logistics - it’s what I do :-)
Ronald D Valle · Reader · added almost 8 years ago
Hey guys,
Firstly, I was really blown away when Joni’s tag brought me to this discussion. The incredibly kind things you’ve been saying about me and We Clocked the T-Rex really had my heart pitter-pattering for a solid hour. Hearing those things, especially from a current competitor, despite your assured and deserved success, Tal, really singles this community out. So I signed up to show my appreciation. Of course supporting my book would mean buckets and buckets of delight to me and I’d have to figure out the logistics of shipping you all a six-pack of beer, but I’m mostly here to say thanks and pay back the good will to the authors down the line.

You’ve made a mushy puddle of me.
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Joni Dee , Tal’s adopting the ’keep your friends close, but your enemies closer strategy’ and I’m right there with him as far as We Clocked the T-Rex is concerned . Ron’s got my vote. I pre-ordered all three of the books Joni Dee mentioned and Ron was the only one to get back to me to say ’thanks’. I’ve since exchange a couple of emails with him and he’s working hard to move forward. I’m a fan of his book and his attitude.
Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
@Billy O’Keefe thanks Billy - you kinda disappeared (understandably) so i jumped the gun. feel free to replace when u want to.
Like Billy I have a problem supporting novel that the authors are not invested in getting their book funded. I think that people we don’t hear from - are simply not doing enough.
With that said, i agree with Billy & Tal that Project Penny and The Science of Magic falls into this category.

I have three suggestions:
We Clocked The T-Rex @Ronald D Valle
- Not afraid of the fall @Kyle James which already reached Quill and i think stands out in being a unique Idiosyncraticate voice in the sea of SciFi.
- Judith@Zack Budryk who had been passed on by two syndicates already. and is excellent, also already at Quill.

that’s my two cents.
Joni Dee · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
Interesting winning strategy byt  @Tal Klein - support your adversaries’ books ;-P
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I should have mentioned, I also pre-ordered Project Penny, and would be happy to do so again, but, as Peter has astutely pointed out, I don’t think us Idiosyncraticate Seven will make much of a difference given the time constraints. Still, happy to roll with the pack if Project Penny is what we fancy.
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
I’m a fan of both and have pre-ordered both. Does Project Penny have a realistic shot given the limited funding time left?
Tal M. Klein · Author · added almost 8 years ago
So if we go with a G&S entry, I would very much like to put my vote in for "We Clocked The T-Rex" which I’ve already pre-ordered and would be happy to so again.

My *favorite* entry is The Science of Magic, but only because I know a lot about the author that she has tragically not put on the book’s page. She’s probably the best author of the bunch in the G&S contest, but she obviously isn’t invested in winning. So I don’t think investing in that is a good idea for the Syndicate. Therefore my vote is for We Clocked The T-Rex.

Billy O’Keefe · Author · edited almost 8 years ago

Hey folks, sorry. I was hoping to have a moment to draw up something in my style for the syndicate coin, and may still one day do that. But in the meantime, everyone here seems happy with Joni’s work, so I’ve subbed that in and we have an emblem. Thanks Joni.

Got my first production meeting tomorrow and we’re moving quickly on the book to get it out for the election, so my head’s all over the place right now, but if you have tentative picks for May, let them fly. Project Penny is still on my radar but I’m sure there are some struggling Geek & Sundry entrants (very much not looking at you, Tal — amazing work on TPE) who may not have a contest win in their sights but who still have time to make a run for publication and could use a boost from us. As always, no genre or book is off limits here.

@Billy O’Keefe the leader seems busy lately with a certain book about to be published.... Billy Oy! u there?

Joni Dee · Author · added almost 8 years ago
lol. thanks though we need to see how it looks with the zoom out... FMI - u never sleep do u?
Peter Ryan · Author · added almost 8 years ago
Nailed it, mate. Nice job, especially on the bendy bit. HRH has never looked so quirky.
Joni Dee · Author · edited almost 8 years ago
Okay folks.. under the limited time i have (my "life" window from when finally both kids fall asleep to when i need to give the baby a bottle is like 8pm to 11pm which isn’t a lot considering dinner, the campaign etc).
now that you wiped away the tears.. this is what i managed:

I had a problem with the writing distortion for the full text, and i decided to solve it by making the distinction to the word Syndicate, so "the Idiosyncraticate " bent beautifully  . i hope it won’t be too small for a smaller emblem .. anyways i hope u like it.
if u send me back to the photoshop it will only happen over the weekend

oh, and i finally finished up my EPILOGUE to the book this morning on the tube (with a notepad & a pen!! -that after my lenovo’s touch screen went bust) .... cheers!

Ah wow Nicola - where are you from originally?
i live around South Hampstead, half my family is from Toronto / Richmond Hill, and an aunt in Niagra on the Lake .. the other half Israeli (not even Brit!)
Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
Haha!  Yes to both Nicola and JD.  I shall now remove my head out of my arse/ass!
Nicola Sarjeant · Reader · added about 8 years ago
I am a fellow half Brit, half Canadian, but not loyal! But if you get rid of the Elizabeth thing and put in the The Idiosyncraticate Syndicate, that might look pretty cool.
Joni Dee · Author · added about 8 years ago
Lol Peter I put her in a freaking clown’s suit!!!
Joni Dee · Author · added about 8 years ago
I am loyal to the Queen as any: British resident, half Canadian... i agree with Tal to take off the 2015. maybe try to put the The Idiosyncraticate Syndicate  if i manage to get photoshop to curve it like that?

Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
Cool  design! But as an Aussie, I’m not sure that I’m quite down with a hereditary leader, who is the foreign head of my country, representing what is an awesome syndicate!
Tal M. Klein · Author · added about 8 years ago
Love it! Maybe just take the 2015 off?
Joni Dee · Author · added about 8 years ago
@Billy O’Keefe I made us a coin as the syndicate’s emblem... let me know what u think? i can also make same style for any different coin u find, and shouldn’t be a problem replacing the text with something we like..

Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
Hello fellow Idiosyncraticate members! You are all fantastic. Thanks so much for your support. We may currently be small in numbers but we are big in heart. Let’s see if we can grow this group and get more backing for writers out there. Thanks again!

Joni Dee · Author · added about 8 years ago
i second supporting Peter’s book so it reaches quill.

will look at Anna’s book for May. it looks interesting enough, and she seems cute (dont tell my wife i said so)  ;-)
what is hard science fiction anyways?

Billy O’Keefe · Author · added about 8 years ago
I’m happy with Sync City as the pick -- I’ve made no secret about wanting to see that one reach Quill, and we’re inside the 30-day window for it to happen. If anyone has any other books they’d like to suggest, please do so though.

Also, looking ahead to May, I’d love to turn people’s attention to this: https://www.inkshares.com/books/project-penny-5061

It’s a hard science book that might get lost in the shuffle once the Hard Science contest opens and suddenly everyone’s writing a hard science book. 45 days left, so it’ll still be campaigning on May 1, but wanted to bring it to your attention now so maybe we can help it out.

Mike Donald · Author · added about 8 years ago
I think that SYNC CITY is looking like a winner and would think it’s worth boosting past the Quill frontier with your help!
Joni Dee · Author · added about 8 years ago
cheers boys! glad to be in.
Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
Hey Jon. Good to see you here.
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added about 8 years ago
Hey Joni! And hey everybody else who has come aboard since Peter and I made our March pick. Excited to see this place slowly filling up. Just some ground rules about suggesting books for our April pick:

1. There are no ground rules. Suggest a book (or books) whenever you see one you like. Even if you’re not in the syndicate and just lurking -- if your appeal for your own book is sincere and not spammy, it is welcome here.

Okay, that’s it for the rules. Once we enter April, I’ll take all the suggestions left here, arrange them into a list and we can whittle it down to a winner.

Joni Dee · Author · added about 8 years ago
Hi all!
Mike Donald · Reader · added about 8 years ago
Colour me stunned! Thanks for your support people. I will spread the word about your syndicate!
Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
I’m looking forward to Louisiana Blood getting funded. It looks super promising. Good luck as well, Mike!
Billy O’Keefe · Author · edited about 8 years ago
Peter pointed me to our pick for March: LOUISIANA BLOOD - A Chandler Travis and Duke  Lanoix mystery. It mixes history, real-life legend and contemporary fiction, set against a backdrop with bottomless potential. Bending genres like this speaks to what this syndicate is all about. Good luck, Mike.
Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
Cool - it would be Idiosyncraticate as well.
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added about 8 years ago
I’ll take a look at it when I’m back home. I kinda like the novelty of a syndicate being a book’s first order...
Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
Todd Albert’s I Shaved for This??   looks promising - though there are zero pre-orders so far ...
Billy O’Keefe · Author · added about 8 years ago
I guess it does. Welcome aboard, Peter. Might just be you and me making the pick this month so if you have something quirky you want to nominate, I’m all eyes.

Peter Ryan · Author · added about 8 years ago
Dude. I guess this makes me VP. I vote quirky.
