CHAMPIONS OF THE THIRD PLANET IS COMING!
First, thanks to you all for having incredible patience with me! I am still chipping away at this novel. It’s not that I’m not writing -- I’m writing ALL THE TIME, just juggling different projects as they come. But I keep returning to CHAMPIONS.
I also wanted to share another project with you --a creepy 3-minute short film I directed in the fall, written by my friend and LOST ROOM co-creator Paul Workman. NOWHERE AS GOOD AS A BOOK, I get you, but here, just check it out: https://vimeo.com/236590565
I’m back on the book full time now so I’m going to start sending regular updates until I deliver it. Will inform.

Oh you. I haven’t forgotten about you.
I wanted to let you know that CHAMPIONS OF THE THIRD PLANET is still coming your way. I got interrupted recently with some TV projects – mainly a pilot for Disney XD and this crazy thing for Fox Network: http://deadline.com/2016/11/neil-gaiman-angry-films-fox-network-the-building-series-development-1201854827/
But I’m back at work now finishing CHAMPIONS, which I still love with all my heart. I think it will be worth the wait and you will dig it.
Thanks for being patient.
I love you.

Hello Champions,
Just a quick note to let you know I’m still writing! I usually write with a soundtrack playing in the background so I thought I’d share what Champions of the Third Planet sounds like to me.
First, this track from Two Steps From Hell, which was used in the Star Trek trailer a few years back. I picture a lot of the moments from the beginning of the story here, with the kids discovering the Orb. Milo says, "I found something in the woods" around the :38 mark and the Orb takes off around 1:02: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxkJvYGP2qE
This track is from one of my favorite bands, the Dandy Warhols. It seems to get used a lot in movies and trailers. It’s pretty high energy and a lot of the very original images for Champions came to me with this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuFtfhOipNQ
Whenever I’m thinking about the kids on the Dead Planet in their quieter, melancholy moments -- hanging around, missing home -- I think of this part of John William’s score from Star Wars, where Luke is looking up at the binary suns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gt8D8SXD_8
This track from Mad Max: Fury Road is something I’ve been using for a huge set piece late in the book that I can’t tell you about yet, but I love the furious intensity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gt8D8SXD_8
I don’t know if any of this music makes sense to you in terms of the book, but it’s all awesome and it all speaks to me for this story, which I guess is what counts.
Back to work!

Hello Champions!
Extremely happy to report that Champions of the Third Planet is being supported by the Nomad Syndicate from Gary Witta! Thanks so much for the support!
I’m writing like crazy right now -- I will have some updates soon!

Hello Champions!
WE DID IT! We got the #1 spot in the Nerdist competition!
Thank you all so much. The outpouring of support from you guys BLEW ME AWAY. To everyone who pre-ordered a copy (or three!), I just want to tell you again how much I truly appreciate it. If I had any human feelings left I might almost be moved, but as you know I got rid of those around 1998.
THANKS TO YOU, Champions of the Third Planet will be in your mailbox or your inbox or on Amazon or at your local bookstore later this year! I really can’t thank you guys enough.
Now everybody QUIET! I have to get back to writing...

Apparently some folks had trouble seeing this image in my earlier update so here it is again at a lower resolution. Plus why not take a second look? You got better things to do?

Hello Champions!
I don’t know about you guys but I had a cool day yesterday: I got to read the first chapter of Champions of the Third Planet to the fourth and fifth graders at Mid-City’s Prescott School of Enriched Sciences here in Los Angeles.
It’s been a looooong time since I was in elementary school but the students and teachers and Principal Panes were very welcoming and highly enthusiastic. I also got to leave before anybody gave out homework.
This was the first time I’ve read any of the book to anybody and I thought the reaction was FANTASTIC -- I hope the kids agree. The room got really quiet when I started to read about Milo and the Orb, the kids seemed to spark to the idea and asked me a lot of great questions afterward -- I really, really enjoyed it. Hopefully I can return when the book is on the shelves...
