Dear Henderson House Supporters,

News Flash!

My upcoming novel, Henderson House, is the May 2021 Break the Bechdel with Strong Female Characters Syndicate pick at Inkshares. This group celebrates female characters who are well-crafted and multi-dimensional. I’m thrilled for Bessie, Florence, and Mrs. Henderson to be recognized! There’s a wonderful new badge on my Inkshares page.

How’s the editing going? Thanks for asking...

I read the entire novel as an e-book, making no notes whatsoever. I read it like a reader. Trust me, it’s hard to turn off your writer brain AND your editor brain and just read the darn story! The good news is, I really liked it!

After the read through, I wrote notes like I would if I had read someone else’s book. Notes about weaknesses in the plot, character development, and pacing.

Next, I printed out the entire manuscript and divided it by Point of View. I read all of Bessie’s chapters as if they were one story. Then Florence’s and then Mrs. Henderson’s. What a wonderful editing technique! This time through, I made and editing marks in the printed document and marked sections that need work.

This week, I will begin making changes to the manuscript. Inkshares has said they won’t have time to get started on my project until the end of the summer, but my goal is to get my revised manuscript to them by the end of June. I’d love to be first in line when their work load eases up.

In other news...

I started the sequel to Henderson House! I shared the first chapter of the next book with my writers’ group last week, so Book Two is underway.

Thank you again for all of your support. Here’s hoping we’re reading Henderson House on the beach next summer.

All the best,

    Dear Henderson House Supporters,

The Inkshares All Genre Contest ends in 30 days! Thanks to all of you, Henderson House is currently in first place (whoo-hoo) but a lot can happen between now and February 27th. I’m so grateful to have gotten this far and I’m asking for your help, one more time, to get across the finish line.

Would you be willing to email 2 or 3 friends and ask them to check out my Inkshares page? If everyone reached out to a couple of people, I think it might generate the engagement the book needs to stay on top. Can you think of an aunt, sister, co-worker, or cousin who might enjoy a "Spinster Romance meets 1940s Church Supper" kind of story? Social media shares are nice, but personal emails seem to be the most effective.

    Here’s the link: https://www.inkshares.com/books/henderson-house

Of course, if you’re not someone who is comfortable sharing the link, no worries. Your support and encouragement to date has been stellar! If you are comfortable sharing, I would really appreciate it. Just think, in 30 days, with your help, this sweet historical fiction romance may have a real publishing deal. We are on the verge of a dream coming true. It’s so exciting!!

    With love and gratitude,

    Caren Simpson McVicker

      Dear Henderson House Supporters

First of all, thank you so much for your support of my publishing campaign. We are at 30% of the funding goal which is ahead of Inkshares ideal trajectory - yippee!! In addition, I have more exciting news...Henderson House has been accepted as a late entry in the Inkshares 2020 All Genre Contest. This means we now have 2 Ways to Win. I can earn a publishing deal by hitting 750 pre-orders by March 16 OR I can win one by being one of the top three project in the contest at the end of February.

To place well in the contest, I need to generate ENGAGEMENT with my draft on my Inkshares page. Pre-orders are only one piece of engagement. The others are READ, DISCUSS, SHARE, and REVIEW.

The first 3 chapters of my second draft are uploaded on my Inkshares page for you to read (remember, it’s a DRAFT!) Please go online and READ them and if you would like me to upload the next three chapters, pop over to the DISCUSSION tab and let me know. I would be thrilled to answer your questions about the novel or the process on the DISCUSSION tab. It would be so much fun to keep uploading chapters for you to read and to start talking about the draft with you on Inkshares. I would LOVE that!

I know people have been doing an amazing job sharing about the book on social media, I’m so grateful, but to place well in the contest, I need folks to SHARE through my Inkshares page. There is a SHARE button on my page. When you click SHARE on my page, you can share to Twitter, Facebook, or through Email. If everyone could think of 3 or 4 people to email about the book, who knows, we might just hit that 750 early!!

Once you’ve read some of the draft chapters, if you feel comfortable, you can go to the REVIEW tab and write a review of the work in progress.

Everyone has been so engaged with the project thus far, I really believe we have a chance to place well in the contest if we can move that engagement off of Facebook and onto my Inkshares page. And of course, if engagement isn’t your thing, I totally understand. You’ve already helped me so much.

That’s the happy update from Dorset. Thank you again for all of your support and I hope to start chatting with you on my Inkshares Discussion page soon :)

      Cheers,

      Caren
