Scott Barsotti, author of Single Version, currently #7 on the Leaderboard, just became a dad. This contest has taken a backseat to parenthood as it should -- for Scott, but NOT for Single Version. Of all the many, many excerpts I've read, this horror urban fantasy is one of the four best novels in the competition.

Today was a good day.

I grew up a Detroit Red Wings fan, and Steve Yzerman was my favorite player. He wore 19. I wear 19 every weekend when I play ice hockey, because of him.

The woman who encouraged me to join this contest was born on the 19th of September.

As I go off to bed, tonight, I occupy 19th place in this little contest of ours.

Now, that doesn't mean I've won ... no; that honor is still 254 readers away from my position ... but it does mean that I've gotten amazing support in a very short period of time (it also means there's a hell of a lot of 19 in my life). I feel good.

I feel immense gratitude toward all of my supporters.
