Hi @Heidi Rebstock You said "If reviews here are more for recognition and such, then I should definitely change up how I review things...." but I just want to reiterate that the guidelines I mentioned were just sort of how I think of the reviews on inkshares. Just my approach to it. Not at all definitive. There’s no official ruling one way or another. Your critical sandwich is fine! (Makes me hungry too...) But just keep in mind that if you’re going to spend 20-30 minutes reading an author’s chapter(s) (or longer if you’re leaving comments along the way like I do) and then write a review that has even a slight negative edge to it, there’s a chance that author will reject the review (they don’t HAVE to post it, I mean). Probably that won’t be the case, especially when an author has NO reviews whatsoever yet, they’ll probably accept anything. But it’s in their best interest to only let the positive stuff through the gate - at least that’s what I would assume - being on a crowdfunding site and all.
In terms of comments, personally, I’ve seen a lot of fairly useless comments being flung about on peoples’ chapters. It reminds me of my terrible experiences in the world’s worst creative writing course. "So what’d you guys think of this story?" "I liked it!" "Gee, thanks." I think the community as a whole should embrace leaving constructive criticism in comments, and of course leave a review for every chapter(s) they read here.
This part sort of confused me. I feel like it’s switching back and forth at this part from past and present tense. Perhaps you could try ’he had been working at the school before hover boards even existed, so he seemed pretty ancient to me.’
He had been working at the school before hover boards even existed, so he is pretty ancient if you ask me. His black tux and purple tie tantalized me, mocking my every move.
