    This is certainly an interesting open to a mysterious story which draws the reader in. By telling the narrative in the first person, we are treated to the world as the protagonist sees it. While this was a little disorienting at first, it did help with the lack of apparent explanation to propel the mystery as opposed to hindering it.

        With a heavy heart I trudged off to bed with thoughts of my family slipping through my mind. Restless, I tossed and turned as images over my father came to mind. My cheeks were damp with tears. Finally, I gave way to my fitful sleep.

        The dream that I had was of my dad, he was tall and strong. Always making my mom smile, he would come home from work, pick me up, toss me in the air and lightly kiss my cheek before settling me into his lap.
