They arrived alone, mostly, or in ragged twos and threes, stumbling in from the late winter cold in their oversized cotton hoodies and bought-on-credit Canada Goose parkas, past the out-of-order ATM in the lonely wood-panelled foyer, and the corner where the cigarette machine used to stand; skirting the Thursday evening dart league in the fluorescent-lit adjacent lounge where somebody’s bawdy grandma was drinking double shots of rye and the teary-eyed break-up dramas were unfolding loudly and . . .

Matt Kaye liked an update for One Murder More

We're midway through launch week of One Murder More!

You did this, you made this happen.

Without you, there would be no book, only a manuscript. Thank you!

And (since no good deed goes unpunished) here are 3  more things you can  do now:

        1. Read the book. (Somehow find time!) When done, post a review on Amazon. You don't need to have purchased the book on Amazon to review it there. Go to www.kriscalvin.com, click on Amazon icon, scroll down and submit a review.  If you belong to Goodreads, please copy and paste your Amazon  review there, as well.  (If you received more than one copy and shared it with someone, please encourage them to submit a review.)

        2.  If you know anyone who has  "a platform (where their promotion  would reach many) who you might be able to encourage to read the book/blurb it or comment, please let me know if they agree to do so. Actor, politician, "man (woman) about town ".  (John Oliver would be top of my wish list, but I'm sure there are many who would be a huge help. ) In any case, tell EVERYONE you know about One Murder More! Word-of-mouth really matters.

        3. Finally, back to sales. If it's possible for you, please consider buying a copy  now  and holding it as a gift for someone special. Limited time Amazon discount for launch: ebook under $8, hard copy under $17. Sales at the start dictate the future life of the book. At www.kriscalvin.com purchase options on home page (Amazon, Inkshares, Indie).

Matt Kaye liked an update for An Unattractive Vampire

Now that I've actually gotten some sleep, it's time for another update.

First of all, congratulations to fellow winners G. Derek Adams and J.F. Dubeau, whose books were chosen as the debut novels for the Sword and Laser Collection. Way to go guys.

Second, more good news came to me on Monday. Not only did I learn this book o' mine was going to be published, but I was accepted to DePaul University's Master of Writing and Publishing program. Huzzah! I'm going to be a Master Writer. (I swear, the idea of being able to say I'm a "Master of Writing" is not the reason I applied. Well, not the ONLY reason I applied.) Anyway, I better work on my triple lindy, because I'm going back to school.

Third there are a few more people who I need to thank for giving me their support:

          1) Dottore Balordo of Blastropodcast: The man of SCIENCE! himself gave me a ringing endorsement in the final day of the competition. Well, at least, I think that's what it was. His actual words were, "I hardly endorphin this navel about umpires." I'm sure that will make much more sense if you just listen to Blastropodcast, available on iTunes or at www.blastropodcast.com.

          2) Thank you to WildClaw Theatre for giving me a push on Facebook. WildClaw is Chicago's premiere horror theatre and their new anthology show Motel 666 actually opens  this week. So if you're in Chicago, you should check them out at www.wildclawtheatre.com.

          3) Thank you to The Sword and Laser for giving me this opportunity. The Sword and Laser is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to, featuring Sci-Fi and Fantasy books and news, as well as author interviews, which I have taken a considerable amount of encouragement from over the years. Without them, this book would be doomed to languish in a folder on my hardrive until one of its brothers or sisters found success. Now, it gets its chance to shine.

          4) And Inkshares, thank you for not only the opportunity, but the enthusiasm and excitment you have already given this project and that you will provide going forward. I look forward to working with you to sell the &$%# out of this book. Pardon my grawlix. (Grawlix (n): a series of typographical symbols used in cartoons or cartoons to represent swearing. The More You Know...)

          5) Thank you everyone who bought a book. "Look what you did. I can't believe what you did." ~ Henry Jones Sr.

I promise I will update you all as things progress. (For example, I'll have to get myself a fancypants website now.) So stay tuned...

Matt Kaye liked an update for Abomination

HELLO READERS, YOU LOVELY PEOPLE, YOU!

Now that it's June I can officially say that Abomination will be published and in your hands NEXT MONTH! Amazing! In fact the digital/ebook edition may even be out before the end of this month, although I'm waiting for confirmation on that. Watch this space!

In the meantime I'm excited to share this new piece of concept art by Industrial Light & Magic's Karl Lindberg. This one, titled "Indra and the Beast", is the second of several original pieces that Karl has created for us, and we're looking at ways to make prints of all these pieces available to you, our backers. Again, watch this space! The updates are going to start coming thick and fast as we move into the final countdown-to-launch phase...

Matt Kaye liked an update for Lost Generation

                Hello Everyone,

Have you seen the emails yet? You did it! Thanks to your support, Inkshares will publish Lost Generation. Your support places an incredible faith in me, and I will give all that I have to deliver a product worth of the opportunity. In this update, I describe what is next, but first I’d like to give some thanks and recommendations.

I feel incredibly lucky for the support of my amazing wife, Brenda. She was my inspiration when I doubted myself and a key supporter for spreading the word. I look forward to continued success with you in my life as we grow our family together and pursue our dreams.

Thank you, D Kirschling, when I was uncertain you used your connections to expose a whole new set of readers to my work. You were the microphone that spread the word when I needed to focus on writing.

Dan Rooney, you were a madman. You believed in my goals from day one, edited draft after draft, and always gave good feedback. You were up late with me, attuned to the heartbeat of the campaign. My work would be less without you. Take a breath and then maybe take your fiancé out to dinner for putting up with it all.

Angela Antinucci, when I first took my campaign online, you pre-ordered it immediately, no questions asked. I had not even mentioned it to you yet. The world could use more people like you.

I am so lucky to be a Sword & Laser winner, but before the project ended, I already won. The bonds and friendships that grew between me and the other writers are greater than any prize and will produce fruit for years to come. As we all fought for the coveted top five positions, nothing was certain, and some of us would not make it. As we celebrate this victory, there are several equally worthy writers that did not earn this chance. I would like to highlight them and ask that if you have remaining credits, or feel generous, that you support their dreams as well. They provided invaluable companionship in the late nights, and I hope to share self-space with all of them in the future.

These writers deserve your attention and share my dream. Please consider them.

In the weeks and months that follow, you will receive status updates on the project and updated drafts. I welcome your feedback and hope you will enjoy the journey to Lost Generation’s official release. Thank you again for your support. I will take this opportunity and create something truly special.

PS. My wife has some free time from work, so I’m not proofing this. Sorry for any mistakes, but you have to enjoy life when it is available. Have a wonderful night!
