I like how easily this banter and relationship is developed between Light and Maya - you show us that the characters have been well thought out, and their relationship has substance. Perhaps my reading this is just poor timing, as this is close to the killing of Harambe in Cincinnati, but I couldn’t help but feel for the poor garacat here...perhaps I am naive, but is Light at all responsible for that death in being where he shouldn’t or in being careless? Or am I about to learn something about garacats that will force me to lose all sympathy for them? Anyway, I am interested in this book and will follow the progress!
Light wiped the water from his face, pushing the sopping blonde hair out of his eyes. “Maya.” She shouldered her rifle and held out a hand to help him up. The garacat lay lifeless a few feet away, shot through the brain. “Remind me to never piss you off.”She grinned. “Let’s get back before you do a repeat of your damsel in distress routine.”
