Dear The Barcelona Initiation Backer,
My name is Larry Levitsky, one of the founders and Publisher of Inkshares. I’m the person who flew to Barcelona to convince David to bring his book to us. I still believe he’s one of the more talented thriller writers working today and I view his tales and insight into the social intrigue that is currently under the radar in Spain as compelling and under-reported. I sincerely believe that someday the world will discover the value of the stories he has witnessed at first hand.
Clearly crowd-funding wasn’t the best choice for David at the time we had met. Inkshares was still in its chrysalis when David signed his contract with us. We placed way too much emphasis on the good will and efforts of his friends and for that, I feel responsible.
Inkshares has had a great first year (the site went live in Feb 2014). We have crowd-funded more than twenty five books, two of which are being written by writers who had published best sellers in the past and another three are showing signs of great market potential. However, the model hasn't worked for David and as such Inkshares is going back to the drawing board with this project for now, looking at other ways to bring this project to fruition.
At the start of 2015, we started an initiative whereby we would bring more readers to our site and develop systems and methodologies in which good writers could find their audience and backers more ‘organically’ than through how our original methodology was structured. In short, we believe we’re on the path where writers will become funded based on the merit of their talent and not on the collective purse of their professional contacts and friends.
However,
for now, on behalf of David and Inkshares, I thank you all for your support
thus far. We will be returning your contributions over the coming days.
Yours,
Larry Levitsky
