Does Roger feel this way about the machines, or is this allusion / foreshadowing? The only reason I ask is later when the new AI’s body is described, the word monstrosity is again used from Roger’s perspective. I feel like the diction is weird if he is a man of science and technology, and that if this is supposed to be foreshadowing it’s a bit too heavy handed.
monster wanted to meet its father
Along the back wall of the Garden, a subdued whirring noise was coming from one of the Gen 17 androids.
Really impressed with your dialogue, sometimes writers can sound the same across characters or don’t pay attention enough to motivation. This is a pretty well driven bit.
“Ok, we propose the processors to the powers that be, and while the bureaucracy spins we do a deep dive on Gen 17 and the processor schematics and build process. We recorded all of it, so we can at least see how they did it. If we have some better answers before the servers get approved, great. If not, then I think we pivot a little. If we get to the point where it’s clear that we can no longer analyze the OS or the hardware adequately, then we change our focus to containment and safety. But we don’t stop the project. I also want to start a smaller, second branch of the effort - Jennifer, you will take the lead on this. I want a second AI working hard to decipher the codebase of this master branch. It’s only job is to give us human readable updates on the master branch. We can spin you up half an acre of machines today if you think you can get it moving.”
He had just pooped directly into their lunchboxes, and they didn’t like it.
Love this bit. Her dialogue is pretty sincere throughout too, good character work.
