Thank heavens you put the whole book up here! I went from Chapter 2-19 last night and just finished the final chapter tonight. Henderson House is such a fun and charming read. The pages are full of rich, evocative passages about Scripture, the natural world, and human nature.  Detailed descriptions of all the book’s different settings give a true sense of how they shaped the characters. It isn’t a suspenseful book, but the ending is the warm-hearted and satisfying one I anticipated.

I prefer the Alternative First Chapter here.  I agree with Nina Leach that this version gives more historical context and more background about Bessie’s professional career. (And sorry to say, but I didn’t know who Dorothy Dix was...)

I couldn’t be more proud of my Mom for writing such a fun and compelling story. It has been so amazing to watch this book come together over the past few years. More than anything I have been swept off my feet by the way these characters have come to life in our own household. I remember the first time my Mom told me that Mrs. Henderson had woken her up in the middle of the night and demanded that something in the book be changed. I think that the characters are continuing to guide her and nudge the book this and that way, occasionally demanding that things really be stirred up.

As captivating as her process has been, I still can’t wait to see the finished product!!
