C. Brennecke liked an update for ENHANCED

We know, we know -- we never call, we never write anymore. Well, that last part isn’t true, we’re still writing, we just haven’t been sending you updates. So here’s what’s up:

ENHANCED has received some very positive professional feedback through a couple other contests we’ve entered where the judging is based on the quality of writing and not on how relentlessly the author pushes their friends and family and total strangers to pre-order it.

There are still a few contests we’re waiting to hear the results of, most notably the Book Pipeline Contest that’s looking for new authors’ works that would adapt easily to film or television. We should find out if ENHANCED has risen to the Semi-finalist level mid-March, AND they include a page of professional feedback for each submission.

We’re also waiting to hear from Her Universe Press -- well worth investigating, especially for female scifi authors! Plus, they promise to respond to every submission whether they choose to publish the work or not.

We’re finally happy with our Query letter and the devilishly tricky 1 page Synopsis. We have a polished -- but we’re not claiming perfect -- manuscript that’s ready for an agent’s love.

So that’s where we are, sending our baby out into the world, to eventually take an honored place in the hearts of millions of readers.

We hope one of them some of them will be yours.

    Wow, guys! Wow, wow, wow.

Would you believe we went up 10 pre-orders in a day? I knew you could make it happen. So as promised, by tomorrow you’ll have a brand new sample chapter!

The level of encouragement I’m seeing from you all is astounding. It reminds me why I started this book in the first place: to reach people like you with a wacky idea for a space opera.

    Now for the important news...

This is officially the last week of the Nerdist Space Opera Contest! Next Tuesday the contest will close, and that means that whichever authors have books in the top three will be set up with a publication deal.

If we aren’t there it means we’ll have to work a lot harder in the future to make sure this book sees the light of day. I don’t know about you guys, but I’d rather finish this now so I can make sure the book goes to market in this collection.

Again, this is referral week! I’ll reiterate what that means for the newcomers and folks who don’t read the bottoms of every email:

If you refer three people to pre-order this week you’ll get:

    •  A signed first-edition draft version of the book complete with random scribbles of frustration

    • A collection of sketches of characters and setting, 10 in total, as a bound art-book

    • A pack of 10 Traveller’s Cup bookmarks
    • A custom Traveller’s Cup mug so you can enjoy your hot caffeinated beverage of choice with your new book

All of these items will be delivered physically to you after the release date, complete with a spacey thank you note. If you refer by word of mouth, that counts too. Just send me an email or message telling me how you know the person.

So with that out of the way, I again want to say a space-sized thank you to you. You belong in this crew because of your dedication to our mission: to make more space books and send them to the worlds beyond.

          C. Brennecke liked an update for So You Might Be a Vampire

Greetings followers!  I’m still alive and kicking and have been locked up doing way too much writing.  After the lack of funding through our campaign here, I’ve sat down with my sidekick/editor Nikki and we’ve been discussing a dew things that have come up regarding the novels.

Firstly I’ve been trying to finish book two in the series "SO YOU MIGHT NOT BE HUMAN" and despite my careful planning for the plot, my "just 6 more chapters" have turned into 20 chapters and I’m only now wrapping up some loose plot threads that have popped up.  I’m honestly not trying to tie up each loose end, leaving enough of them free to have an impact on book three in the series, but these things happen when you have characters like Bob who just don’t give a shit about proper story-structure.

One of the things that popped up in discussion was a heavy edit/rewrite of SO YOU MIGHT BE A VAMPIRE especially since we have this opportunity on Inkshares to get valuable feedback from people who are more than readers.  We’ve also been working on a feature film adaptation of the novel and going through that process has raised a lot of questions and introduced new scenes that I really wish I had written the first time around.

So with that in mind, we’re looking to relaunch our campaign in about 2 months while I go through chapter by chapter.  I’d like to invite your input and feedback during this process.  I know there are a hell of a lot of REALLY, REALLY good projects here on Inkshares and they’re getting some great attention, lots of stuff to read (hell I’m reading and following a few myself of course), but I know that SO YOU MIGHT BE A VAMPIRE can be one of them.

Looking forward to your feedback.  I’ll be pulling the uploaded chapters and posting the new offerings pretty soon.

            Hahaha.

            Haha.

            Ha. So much news...

First of all, there have been sightings of a strange and hilarious creature, stalking local bookstores praying on the minds of readers. Witnesses have placed it at Powell’s Books in Portland...

...at Unabridged Books in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago...

...and at City Lit Books in Logan’s Square also in Chicago.

If any of these locations are near or known to you, authorities recommend you take public safety into your own hands by capturing these potentially dangerous abominations.

Yeah, so enough of that. My book is out!!! Like not officially or anything, but it can be located in physical places. That’s great.

You know what else is great? This review from Publisher’s Weekly.

What’s more...I just discovered that the review feature on Amazon is up and working for my book. Why is this important? Here’s an infographic:

So yes, between 50 and 100 reviews (another number I’ve heard thrown around for algorithms. Please, please, PLEASE...go to Amazon and leave a rating and review. Even if it’s just "I liked it" *Five Stars.* ESPECIALLY if it’s just "I liked it" *Five Stars.* If you already posted a review on Goodreads or Netgalley, copy and paste is your friend. This is incredibly important for the success of the book, especially for a first-time, unknown author such as myself.

And just a reminder again, that the official launch party for An Unattractive Vampire will be at Bucket O’ Blood Books and Records on March 18th at 7 PM. Here’s the Facebook event page so that you know this is totally a real thing and not just another black market toe harvesting scam.

            Almost done.

There’s about a week left to go in the current Inkshares Space Opera contest. Once you’re done writing a rave review about how my book changed your life in ways you don’t fully comprehend, consider helping another person live this dream of stress and uncomfortable self-promotion by purchasing a book like...

The maddening tale of a so-called "round planet" in The Madness of Mr. Butler by Michael Haase
Space truckers and conspiracy in Lucky by RH Webster
The dangerous and nearly extinct human being in The Life Interstellar by Zack Jordan
Interstellar inebriation in Space Tripping by Patrick Edwards
Retro spies and rocket ships in To Live and Die in Avalon by Jason Chestnut

            And again...thank you all.
