Joseph Terzieva liked an update for She Is the End

Hey friends! Thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered. You're amazing. And special thanks to you who have commented on Episode I! I really appreciate all feedback. In fact, here's my free time right now:

...paper edits! I'm making myself go through this process every week:

1. Read the episode. It is terrible. Loathe self.

2. No! First draft = worst draft, always. Everyone's first draft is terrible! Eat something.

3. Edit in computer.

4. Print off episode, edit on paper while riding the bus, walking to get coffee, etc.

5. Enter edits.

6. Give to husband (the "A" in A.C. Weston). He gives merciless critique.

7. Debate merciless critique; make changes except where they completely misunderstand the entire goal of my work, sheesh!

8. One final cosmetic edit to catch glaring copy errors.

9. Say a prayer.

10. Release episode to be battered by the cruel winds of the internet.

Episode I has been professionally copy edited by the excellent Adam Swenson, and that's why it looks so clean. I highly recommend him! You can't edit your own stuff, guys - you have to have fresh, skilled eyes look over it.

The relief is that none of our books need to be completely edited and done in order for us to participate in this contest. Rough drafts are normal and expected. WHAT a relief!

Now go look at these projects:

The Defeated by Joseph G Calcagno - A Swashbuckling Novella of Black Hearts, Black Humor, and  Floppy Black Hats. (Not usually my type of thing, but man, I read the first paragraph and I was smiling for the rest of the day. "At his most ragged he'd never been in short supply of admirers, but if you're going to kill a man, you should damn well look your best." Ha, so good.)

The Fable Hunt by Rachael Berkey - A sleepy town, a couple of readers, and a fairy on a quest to save stories from extinction. Will they find new sources of inspiration or will books die out forever? (Books better not die out forever, ok? The author's voice is solid and unique, keeping the tone very real and grounded as fantastical things happen. I like it!)

Happy Wednesday!

Cara

    Oh, hi!

You’re probably getting a lot of these author updates these days aren’t you? I know I am. I try to read all of them but there are only so many hours in a day and between this contest, work and other projects, I’m finding it hard to keep up. I can imagine it’s very much the same thing for you. So, in the interest of efficiency, let me go through the important pieces of information first

    • The most important thing is obviously to thank you folks. I hadn’t realized how much I wanted to revisit this book until I started getting my hands dirty with the campaign and to have enough support that we’ve been in the Top 10 for over a week is humbling. Thank you and please consider pre-ordering other books in the contest.
    • If you haven’t pre-ordered please consider doing so. It would mean the world to me to get more readers interested in my work.
    • I have a new Chapter available for you! You can read Chapter 4 of A God in the Shed right here. Since I’ll be rewriting most of the book feel free to leave me comments or suggestions. You can also now leave comments on Chapters 1 through 3.
    • I’m working on my book trailer but the images are taking longer then anticipated, but I can show you a sample right here:

In less important or urgent news:

On October 19th, I should have a pretty rad announcement to make. I can’t go into details, but if you’ve liked my work so far, this should come as welcome news.

As soon as the book trailer is ready, I will keep you informed. Until then, feel free to help spread the word about A God in the Shed.

    With infinite gratitude,
    JF

Update on the Nerdist publishing contest. We have 35 unique readers. If we get 31 more people; could be you; then we'll be in 5th place overall out of 239 entrants! That's incredible. Here's how to help. Login to Inkshares, pre-order fresh, OR use pre-existing credit and get the book for free. Most of you received $10 free last time. You can use it again. Help me get this book into your hands for realzies.

Kathy Coolidge: Dr. Guzman, thank you for sitting down with us today, I know you’re a busy man.

Dr. Rohan Guzman: Really, it’s my pleasure. Awareness of the public is only possible if they listen. People listen to you.

Coolidge: Yes, well, let’s hope so. So, for all the viewers who don’t know too much about the current environmental situation, do you think you can give a quick recap of where we’re at, as a planet.. . .
