Do you mean to say that other labs have copied Rebekka and Ibrahim’s success? Would "and, indeed, all of the copycat neural forensic labs and morgues" be less ambiguous? I have to admit that I was momentarily confused by the possessive use of "copies."

      I’ve taken to italicizing thought/talking to oneself internally, to differentiate from the narrative voice. I find that the contract works nicely to highlight the look inward.

          He’d heard of her, of course, and it made sense for him to work as her grad assist while he got his grant proposals submitted, since her work -- first in Human Neurophysiology, utilizing newly available real-time imaging (and developing some of her own) to pinpoint the exact types of data in the various parts of the memory network of the brain, and then her own Biological Nanoscience research, proving that those data could be extracted from the brain in a discernable form -- had been the bases for his own PhD proposal utilizing a computed tomography of sorts to layer the various memory snippets, thereby automating the process that reached her discernable form.
