PJ Carambia commented on The Slasher’s Son
Hello and thank you to all who may be following this project.  I’m a little overwhelmed by this whole thing.  I jumped in head-first.  Honestly that was the best way for me to do it.  If I would’ve waited around I would’ve convinced myself not to try.
I want to tell everyone a little bit more about the Slasher’s Son, or at least why I wrote it.  My love of horror comes directly from my Dad.  He was a huge horror fan.  Now November is NaNoWriMo and it also happens to be the month my dad was born.  So when I decided to give a book in a month a try, I needed an idea.
Now, my dad passed away in June of 2011,  I’m not saying that for sympathy but it was the reasoning behind this book.  I wanted to participate in NaNoWriMo, but I was also very depressed.  I suffer from regular bouts of seasonal depression and November, being dad’s month, is always the worst.
So I decided I wanted to write something for him.  Now Dad wasn’t a big reader but he loved movies.  So I said to myself, I’m going to write a book Dad would love to see as a movie or at least try.
Then I had to figure out exactly which of the subgenres of horror to pick from and I went with a mystery/slasher mix.  Dad wasn’t big on going to the actual theatre but when we did it was for a horror film.  I remember seeing Halloween H20, Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason, Halloween Resurrection etc.  with him. Needless to say we were both into the slasher films.
I didn’t want to do a straight forward slasher book, I wanted something different.  So rolling in that mystery and drawing on a father/son dynamic was how I hatched this plot.  Now my father/son dynamic was completely different from Ty’s and Harold’s.  But like Ty, I have a lot to prove to my father whether he’s here with me or not.
On top of all that I hope it’s original.  Another gripe of my dad’s and mine too, is a lot of movies are the same things over and over.  I’m hoping this take on the slasher story is fresh and will be enjoyed by fans of that genre because of it’s uniqueness.
So that’s a little bit about the why behind Slasher’s Son.
Also to anyone following me, I am still getting used to the Inkshares site.  So please be patient with me as I figure it out.  I haven’t had a whole lot of time to explore because I have been busy on the actual book.
Thanks again
PJ
