I like this. To me, something like this reinforces the permanence of her new state. Not even her tears are allowed to stay.

You might have more luck with readers if you use "Protestant" rather than "Huguenot", or if you took a few words to explain to readers who may be unfamiliar with the term. Explaining what her outfit looks like, rather than just saying "the manner of dress", might be a good cheat for that.
