This is a very interesting start to a novel. Melissa does a great job of letting the reader know there is something larger at work than just the basic storyline.

Alone, some distance away, He looked into the creeping darkness at mankind’s creation. They had done it on their own, and He knew, if they tried a little harder, they would be unstoppable.
Mankind did not have wings, because they were not meant to fly. Yet, every day they launched satellite. . .
