Hey @A.C. Weston I'm continuing the thread here about the funny verbiage and broken links in the comment email. I just deployed a fix. Is that working for you now?

@A.C. Weston just changed the email to callout a mention in the subject line. Is that working for you?

Is it possible to have a someone who is mentioned automatically follow the thread, or maybe after they comment. I think there may be an issue if a user is mentioned, joins in the conversation, but then doesn' t receive any notifications as the conversation continues.

I have not confirmed this.

Also, I just got an email that said "JF Dubeau liked this comment for this!" and the hyperlink didn't work. :)

I liked everything!! As for the mentions feature, I've gotten the emails with the subject line: "A new comment for the thread, [xxx]" and then within the email it says I was mentioned in a comment.

I think it might help to be able to differentiate in the email subject line when there are just new comments on a thread, versus when I've actually been mentioned. I can see myself unfollowing a given thread, and then being mentioned. Would I still get an email? Would I just ignore it if it doesn't say "Someone mentioned you in a comment"?

I'm worried I'd accidentally ignore someone when they were trying to get me to respond, especially when we get to a point where we might be following tons of threads and not reading every comment very closely.

If possible, it would be nice if the mention preference was all notifications, no notifications, or only people I follow. I could see a situation where someone still wants to engage in conversations with people they follow, but not get every mention.

@Joseph Terzieva I'd like to start by allowing anyone to mention anyone else a lá Twitter. I'll definitely add mentions to email preferences though so people can unsubscribe from mention notifications.

Should user's only be able to mention someone who is following them? What prevents someone from using this to spam Tom, Veronica, Gary or Hugh Howey?

I've just deployed a new feature that let's users "mention" other users by using the at-sign, e.g., @Jeremy Thomas.

I'd love to get some feedback on this! Looking at you @John Robin  @Joseph Terzieva @A.C. Weston
