Thank you everyone for the advice thus far. Extremely helpful as I make this move from writing to open up preorders. I can’t wait until March 1st.

As far as nerves - remember that this is your story, and no one else is going to tell it the same way you are, and you putting it out there is important. You believe in your story, and so will other people.  :-)
(In more practical terms, I signal-boosted the heck out of mine on every social media platform I’m on! I think that did a lot, especially on tumblr and facebook.)

Just chiming in again with some more advice I’ve received, be sure that you have at least 30 followers before you start your campaign (that way you have some sort of a following built up) and when you get into selling mode make sure you shift from writer to business. You will get some no’s, don’t take offense just smile, say thank you, and move on. You have to remember they aren’t stabbing you by refusing to buy, they have their own reasons, and it’s important to stick to it and not get caught on the speedbumps.

Oh goodness, everyone here is so kind. This has been making me feel a lot better. And I know 10 followers for my book isn’t too many, considering how many others have, but I’m so humbled already.

It is scary! I remember when I first shared my writing with friends and family. It’s not that bad, but once I shared with other writers, English majors, and professors while taking a creative writing seminar it’s a whole different story. You get much better feedback from other writers, some a bit more harsh. But I think I grew more as a writer from learning from other writers. I hope you find yourself thinking the same after a while.

I find that gritting your teeth and pressing "send" with your eyes closed helps a little. ;)

Honestly, sharing that I write things with everyone has been terrifying, but also really great. After you’ve sent Facebook messages to everyone you know a few times, it does get easier. You’ll get support from unexpected places. Also the community of authors here at Inkshares is really supportive and great. Welcome!

"not too sure how everyone deals so well with the nerves of throwing your baby in the ring."

The nausea goes away, eventually ;)

Welcome aboard.

The community here is very kind and helpful. Don’t worry because all you need to do is ask and I’m sure somebody will be able to help you. Best of luck on your project!

Hi everyone!

Is it obvious by how much my knees are shaking that I’m new here? I’m not going to lie, I’m absolutely terrified to be doing this. I’ve shared my books with several friends and beta readers, but I feel as though this is the first time I’m taking it to the potential of a wider audience - not too sure how everyone deals so well with the nerves of throwing your baby in the ring.
