That is a decent point to raise! Our motivation here is more as alpha perusers than beta perusers, without a doubt. I figure each writer and writer’s companion would profit by tuning in to the Writing Excuses webcast on Write My Essay For Me perusers.

I’ve had this same problem with Tantalus Depths. Someone added several comments to my sample chapter not long ago, but when I popped in to read them, they didn’t show up. The person’s likes did show up, and on her profile page, it said she’d commented as well, but the comments themselves don’t show up in the text.
Which made me sad, because they were quite nice comments. :/

I’m pretty sure that isn’t the case - I’ve interracted with some of these people — plus, as per the screenshot, these weren’t just highlights, but  comments, so less likely to be people accidentally highlighting sections.

One possible cause is they accidentally clicked the page and highlighted a section unintentionally. I know I have done that. When I did, I just didn’t leave a comment. That the author got an email, I not sure, but that may be what happened.

I’ve been having intermittent trouble interacting with comments readers are leaving on my excerpts. I receive email notifications someone has added a comment to an excerpt, but when I follow the link I can’t find the comment.

For instance:
I received the below email, but when I click on the link... loads the excerpt and scrolls to where the comment should be, but the comment isn’t visible.
Based on the occasions where I have hit this, I suspect it is a lack of space — that the comment is there but hidden under the others.

If my hunch is correct, perhaps a solution would be to mark the comment locations (highlighted sections, comment icon in margin, etc. Perhaps include a count of the number of comments against that section) and show the actual comments when you mouse over the marker (or click on it).
