Here's the post that discusses some of the financial aspects of what goes into a book and how the funding has changed over time. It is an interesting read.

There is a good breakdown of costs in the threads where Quill was introduced. I will need to dig it up. If a remember correctly, Inkshares takes a small loss on each book Quill and non-Quill upfront.

Hi @Jason Yormark, authors who join Quill only earn royalties on orders after 250. All funds raised through the initial 250 orders are used to produce the book (but don't cover all of our production costs). The same is true for the 750 goal with an Inkshares title. Hope that helps!

It wasn't clear to me on the 250 pre order whether an author makes any royalties on those first 250? Is it only orders after the 250 that the author earns royalties and Inkshares keeps that revenue?
