Honest to god my sons choice of outfit was just a happy coincidence!
So anyway, SQUIDS IN has dropped all the way down to 6th place in the Nerdist competition, a full 10 orders behind the book that currently holds 3rd place.
If you could dig deep and send some pre-orders over this way, Hendrix the octopus would love you forever!

Yesterday was a great day for Pre-Orders. "Squids In" held 3rd place for a good few hours before the wonderful "In Beta" by Prescott Harvey surged back up the leaderboard while the octopus and I slept. In an effort to win back 3rd place, I asked the octopus to jump on my laptop and hit the social networks to drum up support. I came back to find him doing this...
There is a special circle in hell reserved for Dust2 campers!!!
If you have not already pre-ordered "Squids In", I would really appreciate it if you could. Finishing 3rd is the only way I’m going to get the octopus out of here!
P.S. I have been speaking with some guys over on DeviantArt about drawing a couple of the scenes from my first chapter and what they have been coming back with has been amazeballs so far. "Squids In" is unlikely to morph into a graphic novel but a few drawings here and there won’t hurt. I will share them as and when they are completed.

After a raft of orders overnight, Squids In is in...drum roll please.... 5th place. Oh, I know you were all expecting more from this wacky book about a video-game playing octopus but unfortunately the other entries in the contest are equally as fascinating and so have been raking in the orders themselves. It looks like the Octopus and I have our work cut out if we want to break into the top 3. As such, the octopus has committed to cut back on his drinking and get himself into shape for the fight ahead. As such, the Wii has been dusted off...
A few people have been asking about the "Iodine Clock Reaction" phrase that I use early in Squids In as a way of describing the effect of the octopuses ink being released into the pool. It’s a mind blowing chemical reaction that instantly turns clear water to black. Check out this video that shows it occurring - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5tOEBmBAHg
Squids In has been getting a lot of attention and recommendations this weekend. The octopus thinks I’m doing such a good job that he’s decided to leave me to it and is off to play the PS3 for the rest of the day...
Hey Guys. OK so Squids In has dropped down to 7th place in the Nerdist competition, but we are only 6 unique readers from taking 3rd place so please can you do me a solid and place a pre-order? If you already have, any chance you can tell someone you know about this wacky book and get them interested enough to pre-order it?
To try and incentivize you to pre-order, I created a list of "Ten Awesome Octopus Items on Etsy" over on Buzzfeed - https://www.buzzfeed.com/matthewp4d317e6ea/ten-awesome-octopus-items-on-etsy-2dqod
Please place a pre-order. The octopus has already replaced his launch day bottle of prosecco with a bottle of Kraken Rum and i’m worried about what will happen to him if Squids In drops out of the top ten.
You can pre-order Squids In by following this link - https://www.inkshares.com/books/squids-in

Great news. The octopus finally got around to asking the guys behind the "Octopus Escape" video we’ve used on our project page if we could use it. I think the octopus was pretty persuasive.
Hey Octopus!
Thanks for asking/sharing/contacting me regarding embedding my "Octopus Escape!" video to help with your book promotion... I totally approve of your use of my video!!!
Good Luck with your writing competition Matthew!
OK, it’s go time. I’ve just upgraded "Squids In" from draft to pre-order. The octopus has gotten the bubbly already but I’ve told him we have to wait 6 weeks before we find out if he is a winner or not...
Thanks for following "Squids In" from conception. As a reward, here is a video of an octopus existing outside the water.
Super floppy huh? Turns out that octopus’s can exist for only several minutes out of water, so I’m going to have to narrate my way around that little tidbit. Maybe a waterproof game controller...? Looks like these guys managed this effect by putting the controlled in a ziplock bag:

I’ve just uploaded the beginning of chapter one "First Encounter" so please go check it out, comment and share if you like where I am going with this.

As you may gather, I’m writing this on-the-fly for the Nerdist "Video-Game" competition so your feedback is definitely appreciated. I’m eager to place well but know that such a thing will only happen with your help and support.
Thanks for reading. I hope to add more when my brain is not addled by rum...
