Kickass cover Ferd & @Jaye Milius !

I am very excited to present a new book cover for Mission 51! Here is how it happened:

Recently, Jaye Milius revealed the amazing new book cover for her book Terminus. I was so impressed I asked her who had designed it. This led me to Christian Akins.

Chris was wonderful to work with! Over the course of a few emails and a few days, he fashioned this incredible new cover, with spine and back cover as well. I can strongly recommend him to anyone looking to do the same!

Here is the new Mission 51 book cover. TaaDaa!!

I am feeling dizzy with gratitude! This was truly a special night. Mission 51 reached a funding milestone in a truly heartwarming way. I simply asked on Facebook, and friends responded. We now sit at 100 pre-orders! I am overjoyed!

Thank you Marie Nall for helping us get there, and Sally Johnson Reed for your friendship and support! You are the greatest! :-)

And a very special thank you to Michael Haase and wife Margie, who took time off from new baby duties, to dial the pre-orders up to 100! Thank you!! :-)

Michael, as you all must know, is the author of The Madness of Mr. Butler, winner of the Nerdist Space Opera Contest (in production), and of An Adventure With Dada which is currently in funding. Please give them both a look and send some love his way! :-)

Wow!! Mission 51 just keeps getting better and better!!

I am thrilled to announce another artistic collaboration!

Chris Pyke is a fabulous artist from the UK, who has agreed to render his superb line art for Mission 51. His study of the written material is meticulous. His choice of moment, framing, angle of presentation, and especially the integrity with the story, are simply amazing!

The first piece from Chris is a moment from the chapter called The Crash. Here is the image and an excerpt:

From The Crash:

Finally they reached the top of a ridge, very close to their destination. Through the binoculars they could see a depression at the top of the next ridge, where the last of the dust continued to fall. There were large rocks to the west of the depression, obviously part of the shattered mountain top. But whatever caused it did not stop there. From their vantage point, they could see down into the lower lands of the valley further to the west. Juan pointed out to Juanito a long, dark streak in the land, heading northwest, in the direction of whatever it was they saw flash by overhead. In the far distance, they could see a rising tower of black, billowing smoke. They looked at each other, worried and wildly curious at the same time. Juanito pointed, “Vámos, Papi. Yá!”

Awesome!!

Thank you, Chris Pyke, and welcome to the Mission 51 creative team!

Announcing the Mission 51 Raffle!

Artist Idan Carré has graciously donated an original sketch! This 11” x 12” sketch is a preliminary "concept" study of Mission 51’s spaceship, Janusia. This is basically how she will appear in a drawing in the book. Isn’t she beautiful!? The winner of the raffle will receive this original sketch, signed by the artist, with a personal dedication to the winner of the raffle! How cool is that!?

To qualify for the raffle you must have placed one of the first 150 pre-orders.

The raffle will include the 96 pre-orders that have already been placed, and additional pre-orders up until the number of pre-orders reaches 150.

At that point, the names of every person placing those pre-orders will be officially randomized via Riffle Raffle to identify the raffle winner! Hooray!! :D

  • Each Inkshares E-Reader pre-order (ebook only) will count as one entry.
  • Each Inkshares Reader pre-order (book and ebook) will count as two entries.
  • Each Inkshares Super Reader pre-order (multiple books) will merit as many entries as the number of books ordered.

So… I suggest you place your pre-order now to qualify for the raffle! Be among the first 150 pre-orders!

And… you can increase your chances of winning the raffle by placing more pre-orders! :-)

A heartfelt Thank You to Idan Carré for her most generous donation. This truly is a special, one-of-a-kind piece!!

I just love it when characters cross genres, especially when they "do it" to support their fellow characters. The imposing Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound, has graciously crossed over from his lofty high fantasy perch in support of his sci-fi brother Mat of Mission 51. The Hound would like you to place your pre-order ASAP!

Seriously, you should place your pre-order. We should not deny a man his dying wish!

Thank you, Sandor, for your support! :-)

The writer’s room in my mind is informed by what I learn and experience, especially the things that really grab my attention and interest. For Princess Gail and me that surely includes birding. The month of May is marked by the spectacle of the yearly spring migration. This year we took two separate trips to catch it in two superb locations. It was a time-out from writing, but in the end these trips serve to fuel the creative fire!

Now I will be back at it with renewed energy!

Here is another tidbit for you, a beautiful Nashville Warbler we saw a few days ago at Magee Marsh in northwest Ohio, seen in the company of Princess Gail, my son Kevin and his wife Natalie. Life is good!  :-)

Artist Idan Carré has created another fascinating illustration for Mission 51! It goes along with the chapter called Final Approach. I get such a kick seeing these ideas come to life so vividly. She captured so many of the story’s details! Thank you, Idan! :-)
