1) www.peterkin-investigates.com is now live. Dang, but I need a better book cover. Not to fear though, better art ought to be making itself known over the next week. Right now, peterkin-investigates.com doesn’t do much more than lead right back to the project page on Inkshares; but it will eventually play host to a bunch of new and interesting things.

2) Faith, author of A Cup for the Dead, has started an author’s blog, A Recipe for Murder, dedicated to that golden interbellum age of civilised murder. I encourage you to go check it out; and her book while you’re at it: that book does an excellent job of evoking the joie de vivre of those roaring ’20s.

3) The pre-order campaign is expected to begin at Easter. Watch this space, folks!

@Faith That is an excellent idea. Thanks!

I was just thinking that Eric Peterkin has a perfect motive for investigating this crime - he feels guilty about his lack of service compared to the other veterans. Expanding the one or two places you mention this could help us connect on a deeper level

I started on the Oxford Comma, so far it looks both funny and intriguing.

Dear friends,

I’m glad and grateful to have you all here, and so: a present. "The Adventure of the Oxford Comma" is a short mystery, complete, starring our friend Eric Peterkin; published on Wattpad and free for your reading pleasure. I hope everyone enjoys it as a prelude to the full-length feature that is "Murder at the Veterans’ Club".

Cheers!

Thanks, I’m glad it’s caught your interest!

In general, unless I’m talking about the main character, I try to keep character descriptions down to a few minimalist traits that highlight their primary characteristics and give the reader a seed around which to build an image. I find that too much superfluous detail often pulls the character out of focus again, especially in a story with multiple characters to keep track of.

What’s posted here is about 20% of the whole book. There are fourteen chapters of varying lengths, and I’ve been thinking that I should rethink they way I’ve divided some of these chapters.

I’ve read the 3 chapters and am interested.  I noticed that every character has a first and a second name, and quite complex family names at that, but not much of a description.  Mrs. Garrett keeps on barging in at the Club, it is intriguing that it is tolerated.A few surprises keep the reader alert.  How many chapters will there be?

Ladies and gentlemen; or, if I might be so bold: dear friends....

Things appear to be going swimmingly. I count 98 of you, and I welcome you all. I hope you all enjoy a good mystery, and I hope "Murder at the Veterans’ Club" lives up to expectations.

We have run into a slight issue with our project dashboard. As far as I can tell, this might affect up to five of you; or perhaps it might not affect you at all. This ought to be sorted out soon, and time will tell if the momentary blip will have any further repercussions.

In real life, I am working on an outline for a story game at choiceofgames.com. I do encourage everyone to have a look at what they’ve got going there. These interactive stories are all excellent diversions, and I have enjoyed a good number of them.

This is not to say that "Murder at the Veterans’ Club" is being backburnered! I’m hoping to get some artwork done--perhaps a new cover--over the next week, and editing continues apace. Some of you might have noticed the drastically reduced prologue, which I think serves the purpose of appetiser a lot better than a lengthier segment of prose. The current plan (subject to developments at Choiceof Games) is to go into pre-orders at Easter, though if things move quickly enough I might move the pre-order date somewhat earlier.

Do check out Faith A.’s "A Cup for the Dead", which is another excellent detective story in the "golden age" tradition.

Ladies and gentlemen.

It is now week 2, and there are 50 of you. I feel encouraged by the support, but is it enough already with which to begin with the pre-orders? I don't know ... what do you think?

There's been a slight tweak to the title. "Murder at the Veteran's Club" isn't quite so snappy as "Murder at the Vet", but at least it looks less like a story about a murder in Herriot country. Which could be a good idea for a sequel, actually.

In the meantime, I'm very slowly doing revisions based on some thoughtful comments from Faith A.. The sample chapters have not been updated at this point; they will be updated when I'm through with revisions.

Keep watching this space, ladies and gentlemen.

Hey Christopher. just a thought - maybe worth changing the name of the novel as "Vet" is associated to many as "veterinarian" .. and tbh - until i read about 2 weeks ago i thought it was indeed a vet :-)   personally fond of the name, just a thought...
