As a trauma nurse, I found this gripping and true and as a human, I was moved by the poignancy and humor. I don't get to see that side of trauma, being the one in the face mask and bouffant cap, although I do try to remain keenly aware of how frightened and alone a person must feel laying below those halogen lights, on a backboard in a c-collar, naked. I would have given you lots of pain meds and blankets from the warmer. ;)  Thank you for sharing this terrifying, life changing experience. I have to say though, it it strange that the paramedic wouldn't give you pain meds en route.  Um, you were run over by a truck; we will believe that you are having a lot of pain!
