I am WELL overdue for an update but we’re getting into the stretch again where THINGS are HAPPENING causing me to occasionally type in ALL CAPS.

First of all the Audible book, narrated by the talented Kevin T. Collins is up! And the Amazon listing is out too!

Best of all we got a nice writeup in Publisher’s Weekly. At least everyone tells me it’s nice. I, as the writer of the book just keep giggling at the phrase "appropriately convoluted."

Also "The story will suit readers who enjoy seasoning their planetary romps with a dash of cynicism. " Heh!

Pilot X also got prime placement at the top of the Kirkus Reviews epic list of 225 speculative fiction books to look for in 2017. Thanks John!

All in all things are going swimmingly and I can’t wait for all of you to be able to read the whole story and find out what Pilot/Instructor/Ambassador/Secretary/Citizen X is all about. And why just calling him X is kind of insulting.

We’ll let you know if we have any more cool news as we get closer to the March release date.

Thanks again SO MUCH for making this possible. Y’all rock.
Tom

Hey there, I thought I’d update you on the progress with Pilot X as it’s been wending its way through the publishing process.

First our AMAZING cover is finalized. You’ll see it updated on the Pilot X page here. Let us know what you think!

Just got the copy-edited manuscript back. Copy edit is where they not only fix punctuation but also make sure the style is consistent and such. It’s less intensive than the developmental edit I told you about back in June. Just tightens things up so it all makes sense and looks good on the page.

I sent that back Tuesday so we’ll hopefully be on our way to proofs and galleys soon!

All in all this means we’re still on target for a March 14 release. Thanks again so much for all the support.

Cheers,

Tom

Dear Pilot X Backers,

Yesterday we prematurely sent out a system-generated email saying that the print book is ready to ship out. The book is currently in editorial and is on schedule to ship out early 2017. Sorry about the confusion and thanks for your support!

Cheers,

Thad

Yes, someone slipped one of the new cover options into the profile. It’s the one I like though it’s not finalized yet. Let us know what you think!

Just pre-ordered the ebook.  Thanks Tom.  Really enjoyed United Moon Colonies.  Looking forward to this one.

First Edit is DONE!

Hey folks, I’ll try to walk the line between too many updates and never hearing about the progress of Pilot X, but I think this is a good milestone.

The Developmental Edit is done!

What the heck is a developmental edit some of you ask? Now some of you are sneering because you know what it is. Stop that. Not everybody is as smart as you.

Basically this is the edit where Clete finds the things that I abd my beta readers didn’t realize were confusing or contradictory. I slap my head and go WOW how did I miss that? I take his suggestions add a twist of my own and YOU end up with a better story.

Among the highlights

- The people of the Fringe Cascade have much more readbale names but their horrible spellings have been preserved as a hilarious joke. At least Clete and I think it’s hilarious

- The Encyclopedia chapter is now at the end of the book as an appendix so you all don’t throw the book out the window thinking the whole thing is a dry recitation of facts

- A really confusing bit where Pilot X travels back int time to the same point three times is now understandable.

There’s more but it would be spoilery.

So there you go. Developmental Edit MANAGED.

Now it’s off to the copy editor where they will wail and gnash teeth at all my typos and utter lack of comprehension of the proper use of a comma. Clete tried to catch most of those things but he is only human and I am really awful at commas.

MARKETING PLAN! There’s a marketing plan. Spoiler: THIS IS PART OF IT RIGHT HERE!!! But also exciting things like newspapers and blogs and radio and podcasts. Heh. Podcasts.

Also a side note. Amazon decided the book comes out in February which it doesn’t. The expected release date is still March 14. Amazon just makes up stuff sometimes apparently.

And that’s it!  By all means please let me know if you have any more questions and I’ll keep you up to date as we pass more milestones.

As always THANK YOU for your belief in this book and making the publishing possible. You are the best.

Tom
