Hey, and Happy Friday!
Somebody went to the Women Like Us Amazon page and ordered 5 copies yesterday! Here, take a look:
Not sure who did that, but I would thank that person most heartily. Okay, sure, not 500 orders, but you gotta start somewhere, right?
Production of the book continues toward that July 26th publish date, which is extremely exciting. In fact cover design is mostly complete, and there will be two blurbs on the back . Here’s a preview:
"If you have parents, if you have kids, if you have a heart, Women Like Us is the book for you. It’s like a great recipe for life."
This is from author Charles Dickinson, who wrote a novel called The Widows’ Adventures. I fell in love with this book from page one, and hopefully one day soon there’s going to be a movie version of it (full disclosure: I adapted the book and will co-produce the movie), but do yourself a favor if you love to read and get a copy. You too, I bet, will fall in love with Ina and Helene, two ladies who go on a kind of road-trip you haven’t seen before. Or look into one of Charles’ other books like A Shortcut in Time, or A Family in Time. Here’s a link to The Widows’ Adventures:
Here’s the second blurb:
"Women Like Us is a wonderful and true examination of deep, real human emotion."
This one comes from Joseph Asphahani, whose novel The Animal In Man, a Sword & Laser contest winner, is coming soon from Inkshares. If you haven’t pre-ordered a copy, consider doing so. Here’s a link:

Speaking of other Inkshares books, there’s a Father’s Day sale going on -- there’s 50-75% off some cool books, so check that out. I can especially recommend director Jake Bender’s wonderful The Elephant in the Room, and Landon Crutcher’s Monkey Business, which is a super trippy head-trip of a book!
So that’s it for now. Stay tuned as publish day approaches because there will be more news to share about the book. And, as always, thanks everybody for the support.
Hey Trusty Women Like Us Followers--
Happy Friday, and I thought, since it’s been a while, I’d update on where we are on what looks like will be a July 26th publication date. The last couple of weeks have mostly been about my going through the final copy edit of the manuscript. To give you an idea of how much work is involved, take a look at this!
Pretty much every page is covered in notes! A special shout-out to the fine folks at Girl Friday Productions -- these are the people who are doing the nuts and bolts production of the book, and it’s a fascinating process. Meanwhile, any questions I may have are answered promptly and thoroughly. I think these guys are just as committed to putting out the best book possible as I am, and I am very grateful for the work they’ve done so far -- even if there’s still a ways to go.
What else is happening? Well, cover design is pretty much done, except for...wait for it...blurbs! Two fine, upstanding authors for whom I have the utmost respect have agreed to give blurbs for the book cover, and I can’t wait to share them with you, so stay tuned for that.
But wait, there’s more!! I have also been busy creating a new author website, the book itself is up for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Goodreads and, I believe, ibooks as well. Plus I have a Goodreads author page. All of these are still somewhat under construction, so I wouldn’t go check them out yet, but soon!!
Next week I will be turning the manuscript back in, so that will be it for making any edits and changes, which is kind of scary, but I guess at some point it’s time to just let go. Then it will be getting down to business on a lot of marketing issues. Whew. Ok, that’s a lot, huh? So hope everybody has a great Friday, and a great weekend too.
JP
Happy Friday. The production process continues on Women Like Us, with the copy edit due back to me for review next week. I can’t wait to see it! In the meantime, cover design is almost complete as well. There’s a new post on the book’s Facebook page, and you can check that out here (and by the way soon there will be a page for the book on Amazon too). Here’s that Facebook link. Please hit the like button on the page if you haven’t yet.

Hey all:
As part of the campaign to get Women Like Us to its publish goal, some of you might be aware there was a contest that involved one our dogs, Derric of the Beagle Freedom Project. Derric spent the first five years of his life caged up in a lab, and during this time, before Beagle Freedom Project secured his release, he was known by the numbers and letters tattooed in his ear -- BCT-8. Some others who have fostered and adopted these dogs have gotten tattoos of their own that somehow incorporate the beagle’s tattoo as a way of honoring the dog, and I’ve always loved that idea. I’ve said this before but it bears repeating: I consider Derric to be so very brave and courageous. Seriously, how many of us could survive being caged up pretty much our entire lives and still emerge to become the happy, sweet little man we have today. Anyway, Victoria Weaver, also a BFP adopter, won the contest, which allowed her to chime in on the tattoo design and placement on my person. So here it is, folks!
All hail The Beagle Freedom Tat! Thank you Derrek (!) at Broken Art Tattoos in Silver Lake. This, by the way, takes car of the last of the Women Like Us contest loose ends! News about publication date should be coming soon, so stay tuned!
Good morning! There’s a new post on the Women Like Us Facebook page about the Beagle Freedom Project, which you can find below. Don’t forget 10% of anything I make on book sales will go to this wonderful organization so if you pre-order a book you’re also doing something good for the beagles. Also, please hit that ’Like’ button on the Facebook page if you haven’t already. Meanwhile, the edit and design phases are under way so stay tuned for more updates. Next week I have a call regarding marketing set up with the Inkshares team, but if anybody has any other good marketing suggestions, please feel free to let me know! Okay that’s it for now and here’s the link to the book’s Facebook page:
Happy Friday! Couple of small updates. While work on cover design continues, and while we await word on the edit, some loose ends regarding contests are also being wrapped. This week a couple of really sweet bone-in Ribeyes were sent to the winner of the McCall’s Meat And Fish Gift Certificate, and I have been in contact with a tattoo artist about the Honor-Derric-Of-The-Beagle-Freedom-Project tattoo. This should be fun (and maybe a little painful!) Meanwhile royalties have started to trickle in, and the first 10% donation to the Beagle Freedom Project has been made. So if you haven’t ordered and you want to help a good cause and read a good book, hit that pre-order button! Also, don’t forget if you’re on Facebook to head over the book’s Facebook page. There I’ll be posting updates on the production process and whatever interesting things I think you might like. Here’s the link in case you missed it.

Oh, and the extremely talented Steven Murashige took my author photo, which appears below. As you can see we decided on something more casual and fun rather than ultra-serious. I love the picture, and I can’t thank him enough. Check out Steven’s site for more on his work here:
I think that’s it for now. Thanks all and have a great Friday.
Most welcome news in the email inbox!! As you can see, Women Like Us’ status has changed from funding to in production, with the publish date pending. When I know more about that exact date, I will let you all know again, but thanks to all supporters most heartily for helping to make this book happen. It truly means a lot to me. Now for a little much needed rest before getting into the production process, but can’t wait to hold this book in my hands, and I hope you all can’t as well!
That isn’t "someone going to your Amazon page" It is Amazon buying five copies to stock in their warehouse so they can fill orders as soon as they come in. And they will buy more!
That "You’re Selling Books" email is always so much fun to receive and you will be getting many more of these as you approach your release date, Welcome to the club! Good luck!
