Mary writes in prose letting me undersatnd her characters in a deep way and thus engaging me in their story. The book is so relevant to our social problems with racism today and must be available for everyone to read.
Although Wild Conviction is a work of fiction, its values & the racist culture which produced them are still alive and well in the 21st century! To focus on a young girl’s realization of these horrible truths is a brilliant way to present these inequalities & hurtful attitudes.
Thank you, Nirami, for your comment about how Wild Conviction has captured your attention in such great ways! And, yes, the treatment of people of color in our country’s history shocks the soul.
Dear Friends, Readers and Supporters of Wild Conviction--
The Inkshares contest that decides who will be published ends next Saturday, February 27, just days away!!
I have 257 pre-orders -- which is fabulous!!! -- and I thank all who have pre-ordered!!
But 257 doesn’t meet the Inkshares requirement of 750 for publication....so
the contest they launched can get me there -- by other displays of interest in my novel being shown (in addition to the pre-orders Wild Conviction has).
What this means is, in addition to the pre-orders Wild Conviction already has -- the contest is based on engagement.
I know many of you have already done some of this, and thank you. But in the last few days before the contest ends, if you or anyone you know can engage in the following ways, you are helping as trailblazers on my path to publication.
This book gives me a sense of feeling, and it thrills the soul. This also makes me cringe and stare in shock, as people were treated like this not to long ago.
Thank you, Reader Writer, for reading and for your kind and honest comments. Yes, the treatment of black people and all persons of color in antebellum America shocks the soul.
As a woman who grew up in the South, this book & the characters are authentic and the issues they face in coming to terms with racism are real. As are how Southern women are still taught to be "ladies!"
Just finished the first two chapters, and I sense a heroin in the making. I am hooked. Can’t wait to read more. Even though I have read it hundreds of times, I still cringe when I hear how my people were treated in those days.
Megan, thank you so much! I have aspired to and worked hard for this story to be a relevant page-turner that hopefully lifts the reader on a journey back into time!
