Intro: I Want to Break Free

“I want to break free. I want to break free. I want to break free from your lies, You’re so self satisfied, I don’t need you.” - I’ve Want to Break Free, Queen

"Man, I want to get out of this fuckin’ town."

"C’mon, Guy. You know you ain’t goin’ to do shit! Now gimme a hit."

Bass takes the rolled paper and lights the end, inhaling real deep before coughing it all out.

"He’s right, Guy. People like us never go anywhere."

"Well, fuck you all too."

Guy fumbles around in his flannel.

"Dammit. I smoked my last one. Hey, Fannie, can I bum one off you?"

"I’m out too, Guy. Hey, Bass, don’t smoke it all, asshole!"

"All right, all right! Here princess, your turn."

“I’m serious. I want to break out of here and do something.”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know, Bass. Maybe I’ll write a book abut your dumbass and it’ll make me famous or some shit.”

“Dude, that’s not cool.”

“I’m not here to be cool.”

“Then why are you here, Guy?”

"What time is it?"

"7:15, man."

"Cool, we got time."

"For what?"

"He’s tryin’ to stay away from Haines. He doesn’t get in until 7:30 but Guy don’t want to be around him more than he have to."

"But Mr. Haines is cool!"

"Appearances aren’t everything. And I still need a goddamn cigarette!"

"Cool it, Guy! They’ll only kill you anyway."

"That’s rich coming from you, Fannie!"

"All right, cool it guys. Fannie, Guy’s got his reasons, so leave it. Guy, Fannie was just asking so no need to get all worked up ’bout it."

"Sorry, Fannie."

"It’s good, Guy. Here."

"Bitch! You had a smoke this whole time?!"

"’Thanks Fannie!’ Oh, you’re welcome, Guy!"

"Daaaaaaaaaamn! She played you!"

“Why are you holding out on me, Fan?”

“Don’t call me Fan!”

“I’ll call you whatever I want, Fannie.”

"Guy?"

“What?”

“Seriously, what’s going on with you and Mr. Haines?”

"Dude, you got to let that shit with Haines go. Nothin’ you can do about it."

“Guy, what the happened with Haines?"

"I don’t want to talk about it!

Guy takes a drag of his cigarette and puffs out the smoke.

"It’s a good morning and I want to keep it that way."

“Okay. So, guess what I did last night?"

"Jane? Gretchen? Blake?"

"Shut up, Bass! You’re just jealous

that I get more girls than you do!"

"Yeah! You reelin’ them in, eh Fannie?"

"Better than your virgin ass!"

"Listen, I’m just waitin’ on the right lady for this!"

"Then I hope you got time to kill!"

"That’s rude!"

"I’m rude."

"Guy, help me out!"

"What?"

"Dude, get of your head!"

"Hey, Guy, you okay? You’re all white in the face."

"I’m fine."

"C’mon Guy. You’re scarin’ me a little."

"I’m fine. I’m just thinking about some shit is all, okay?"

He drops the cigarette and crushes it under his heel.

"C’mon, we should be heading in.

People are gonna start coming soon."

"You know, we show up ev’ry morning before anyone else and no one gives a damn! Like, why?"

"Have something better to do, Bass?"

"Don’t get smart, Fannie. Just ‘cause you get good grades and ain’t nobody hates you yet."

"They wouldn’t hate you two either if you ever tried."

"It doesn’t matter. They don’t care about us."

“Lies! Guy, do you know how many girls

and guys I know who’d care a whole lot

about you if you let them?”

"That’s not what I’m talking about."

"What are you talking about then?"

"C’mon Fannie, no one in this town

gives a damn about us!

We’re nothing to them! Nobodies! Rejects!"

"Only cause you act like one!”

“Well better to act like what I am

than whatever the hell they want me to act like!”

“You’re hopeless.”

“Damn right, I am.”

“I don’t have time for this."

She takes what’s left of the rolled paper and smashes it on the cement.

"I’m headed in. See you in first period."

"Man, she’s somethin’ ain’t she?”

“Yeah, she is.”

“Hey, man. Seriously, you need to get out of your head. I don’t know what happened but I’m worried about you, bro."

"Bass, just shut up."

"Ight." Silence. “Who’s that?"

"That’s Kid."

"Who?”

“I said that’s Kid.”

“Never heard of him."

"That’s cause he’s a loner, Bass.

He doesn’t talk to anyone and he’s always

got his nose in his notebook."

"How do you know him?"

"My mom used to babysit him when we were kids."

“Your mom used to babysit?”

“Yeah. When my dad was still around.”

“Shit. I didn’t Ms.-“

“Can we not talk about her right now?”

“All right, all right. What’s wrong with him?”

“Nothing. Actually, he’s kind of brilliant.”

“No, shit? Maybe he should hang with us then?"

"You serious?"

"Hell no, man! Look at him! He’s nobody!”

“Well, what are we?”

“C’mon, you know what I mean.”

"Well, why not?"

“Look at him!”

“I am!”

“He’s a fuckin’ joke, dude.”

"How do you know? You just said you don’t know him!"

"I don’t need to, man! Look at him!"

"I’m going to see what he’s doing tonight."

"Guy, no! Just leave the poor kid alone! He can’t hang with us!"

"C’mon Bass! It’ll be fun. We can show him what being a nobody should be!"

"Goddamnit, Guy.”

“You don’t have to come Bass.”

“I’m going to class. Do what you want."

“Bye! Hey, Kid! Come here!”
