Chapter 1

Blue sky above a red river of blood and tears.

She stood in early morning first light in the apartment suffocating air recollecting the morning’s event wondering what did she do to offend the landlord? When entering the rental building to pay the rent this morning the landlord glared at her as if she had been touched by the demon Azazel and was rehearsing for a starring role in the movie "Fallen 4." To think things thoroughly she goes back outside in the last dew of this day and pace the walk way while no one is up and about, the streets are deserted except for the early birds coming from or going to work. The rental office kept early hours for people like herself so there would be no excuse for not paying on time.

"I’m not taking your money." Shelia Jean sneered at her. "I want you and your whole shebang outta here."

Distress started escalating at an alarming rate but refusing to allow it to mirror in her eyes. Ana calmly asked "What have I done to violate the rental agreement?"

Shelia Jean casually shrugged her thin shoulders and looked her squarely in the eyes and coldly but nonchalantly said "Nothing. You’re the perfect tenant. I just don’t like you."

Sighing heavily from years of déjà vu" with landlords so I asked for 30 days to find a place to put her ailing mother and 4 year old daughter.

Shelia Jean chuckled a nasty laughter and turned and smiled a nastier smile. "I don’t think you understand...I can’t stand the sight of you. The sight of all of you makes me sick. I want you gone by noon today. Begone! Scat! Git! Outta my face bitch! What more must I say to make myself clearer?!"

Ana was done being nice deciding it doesn’t get you anywhere but kicked in the teeth again and again. "Well I hate to tell ya" Ana said leaning in close and personal, her voice laced with fury. "That’s just too damn bad you can’t stand the sight of me. You know what__you aren’t easy on the eyes either. For the past 9 months I’ve damn near gone blind from looking at your ugly mug! But know this and know this clearly! You’ve lose your ever-loving, hell-bent mind if you think I’m gonna to drag my mom and child out in this delirious heat All because you don’t like me. There’s a whole lotta shit people don’t like but they’re mature enough to make up their minds to deal with it so you can scratch your ass and get glad about it for all I care!" Ana stood staring down at the seated woman, shifting her weight to her left leg with her arms folded tightly around her midriff to lessen the blow of the unexpected eviction as she glared at her with a burning hatred.

Flabbergast and shocked at Ana’s outburst which felt as if it snapped her out of a mean-spirited trance Shelia Jean stuttered. "I-I-I had no idea you felt this way... about me. I-I-I assume something can be worked out..."

"So now you know it! That I think you’re cow-ass ugly! But about the rent--- that’s more like it!" Tossing the money on the desk, she sashayed toward the door as she turned to leave she said. "You better not call the police because remember I know where you live! I’ll be out of here by August 1st."

Ana regretted the words the moments they left her mouth. But she was sick of taking an endless parade of crap off of people for no reason that made any logical sense. People insults and attacks her for no justifiable reason. It makes no sense. It’s the year of 2488 and you’d think with all the process and advancements made in the last five centuries a lot of what she endures would no longer plague the human race. But sadly it still does. As I see it, sexism and racism haven’t changed much from the 20st century. We’d like to believe it has, that we’ve much more enlighten, progressive and tolerance than our ancestors but according to what I’ve read as to what went on back then and what I’ve encountered in the 25th century. I don’t see much of a change.
