I’ll keep this short and sweet. Over the past 10 months, I’ve diligently been crunching away on a rewrite. It’s HARD. I have always appreciated the art of writing, the challenges inherent to it and respect authors immensely. Having now completed a rewrite - that admiration has gone up 100 fold!
Anyway, Draft Two is now done! I’ve posted the first chapter in the Read tab, so please check it out.
The book is now currently in the hands of a small group of beta readers and I’m hoping to have feedback from them within the month to decide on next steps.
Thanks to all who have followed this looooooonnnnngggg and sparsely updated journey!
Hello to my most excellent hopeful future readers!
Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve updated anyone, so apologies. Life is busy, ya know? Between being a dad, working full-time and finding plenty of other good excuses, I’ve made progress slower that I’d have liked.
Editing draft one is just about complete. I’ve begun positioning scenes on a giant white board to allow for adding new scenes, moving some and adjusting sections where things fell apart a bit. My biggest obstacle is the following: needing to find someone willing to discuss theoretical physics with me as I develop the physical laws of the universe I’m creating. Know anyone willing to help? Maybe you? I promise to give you an extra thanks in the book acknowledgements or something! And a copy of the book, naturally! Contact me to discuss. Thank you!
I’m baaaaaaack! Well, it’s been 3 months since my last update and a lot has happened since then.
I completed the NaNoWriMo challenge by Nov. 25th and took a week off to enjoy Thanksgiving. I traveled to Las Vegas for a short trip, continued writing. Traveled home for Christmas, and then actually finished the first draft!
Since then, I’ve re-read it, had a few beta readers read it and provide feedback. I have created a new list of updates, edits and am preparing to work on draft two.
I’ve decided to scrap the Prologue, but keep a few elements of it that I’ll work into draft two. Characters will be expanded on, and thanks to today’s announcement that gravitational waves are REAL, I can now take elements of that discovery and work it into my story. Science!
SO, that’s where I am at. I owe you a chapter to read, so hang tight. I’ll try and upload chapter one soon.
3 days complete for NaNoWriMo and I'm more than 2000 words ahead of the pace. I've written three chapters and continue to write feverishly when I'm able.
Thanks for following along. I'm hoping to post the first chapter soon (even if it is only in first draft mode!) for some feedback.
Things are about to happen. I finally did something with this book idea and am pulling the trigger to start writing... in November. I signed up for National Novel Writing Month. If you haven't heard of it, it's a competition to get writers to crunch out 50,000 words between Nov. 1st - 30th. It's daunting. I'm a bit freaked out, but at least I've got an idea, notes and the creative juices to get going!
Until then, I've updated To Be There, Not Here with a prologue, as well as info about who I am, what the book will be about and how you can help me actually do this thing!
Thank you again for being the first 12 people who showed interest in this idea that struck me on a whim. I hope you stick around for the ride.
