My name is Dorian T. Chase, otherwise known as elementalcobalt on my wattpad.com and wordpress sites. I am a biomedical scientist currently finishing my doctorate.

I started ’Time and Place’ years ago. Since then I have troubleshooted, workshopped, and analyzed the story. I have some 200,000 words of the 300,000 word book completed. It’s book one of a planned 5 book saga.

Time and Place takes place in our future. Many thousands of years ago, Earth launched multi-generational ships across the galaxy to seed new colonies. Over the hundreds of years each colony ship took the reach their destination, people lived and died. They developed new, unique cultures, lost information, made new discoveries, and became unique cultures onto themselves.

After landing, these changes continued as influenced by their environment until the discovery of Gate technology, which allowed them to fold space and travel to nearby solar systems. Through the long process of star scanning, eventually 12 colonies were able to reconnect, untold time after they had set out. Long forgetting the home called Earth, each colony identifies as it’s own with it’s own unique history, myths, and theories on where they truly came from.

One such empire, a space monarchy controlled by the Lord Regent, finds a man frozen in time on an abandoned world, one he used to live on called Earth. However, before his secrets can be obtained, he falls into the possession of the Lancers, a group of radicals attempting to reform the government. Confused for a Lancer, he becomes caught up in the political struggle of this group, while something far more deadly closes in on all of them.

This novelization follows the pacing and structure of a Fantasy story, like Wheel of Time or Game of Thrones. Like Game of Thrones, the characters are morally ambigious, and while there is a clear threat (think whitewalkers), the nobles and Lancers also fight, even though neither side is necessarily good or bad.

As a scientist, I’m interested in creating a universe that is feasible based on what we know about physics. It will explore many unique planets with strange climates. Every world won’t be "this is the ice world" and "this is the fire world" and every culture will be complex and not follow some cliched archetype. Space travel will have weight, taking time and requiring more than some magical McGuffin engine that magically floats them across the universe.

I’ll explore how culture’s deviated over time, the physical changes that occurred over the course of evolution to create unique races. I will also tell a compelling story about two broken people trying to make a difference in the Universe.
