Who knows where ideas really come from? All I know is, one night, a particularly gruesome and vivid scene came into my head and I knew I had to make a story out of it.
This novel is about the fundamental differences (and dare I say similarities?) between humans and monsters, what motivates us to live our lives, and what love really means.
It’s a rather bleak imagining of our worst national fears like disease, war, and anarchy, as well as personal fears like disfigurement, pain, loss, and dysphoria--all told through the dry humor and perspective of a thirty-something female survivor named Elizabeth.
