My novel, The Upture, is a satire about the warlords of a collapsing American empire grasping at a final solution for a world moving on without it: fake the Second Coming, complete with the Book of Revelation’s megadeath punishments. Walt Hrka, a disabled Army drone operator turned Miami plumber, joins a counter-conspiracy of people all over the world to head off a launch of America’s nuclear missiles against all its rivals. His old commander, a deranged militarist who had himself converted to software, now heads an army of similar "angels" - 100 million of them. They’re in a race across the continent and cyberspace to get to those missiles.

I developed The Upture from a short story about people using virtual reality to mask their awful jobs, like plumbing, little knowing that the service is being provided to keep them indoors and unconcerned about events in the real world.
