My apologies for the lack of update this week!

Due to a small crisis among the international students at my university, we have had an unexpected house guest for a while now, and as such, my free time normally used for writing has been sucked up and away.

To make up for this week’s lack of content and the lateness of my update, next week will have double the stuff.

Again, very sorry for the inconvenience.

Time for another weekly update!

1. Work progress: Chapter two is on its way, but I had less time with work this week, so you’ll be getting it likely around next Thursday. In the meantime, I have uploaded a little bonus content in the form of a special reading from a special poem - check out the video!

2. Additional content: I’m still on the hunt for cover art! I’ve had a few suggestions, but so far nothing has come through. If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, please send them along.

3. AMA: I don’t find myself particularly interesting, and I already know everything about my own book ... but from what I’m seeing, the authors on here are pretty open and bombastic. So, in order to keep my integrity and not bother you, but still give you content you enjoy, I am opening an AMA! Send me questions about myself, the book, whatever, either by direct message or by e-mail (christinelcook@outlook.com) and every week, I will answer a few of them here in reader update form (or maybe in vlog form, depending on the week).

4. Book status: We haven’t moved in pre-orders, but we’ve been having a lot of fun in the followers department, so I complaineth not! I look forward to reading and/or reviewing your work, and hopefully we can all make books while we’re at it.

All the best to you and yours,
-Chrissy, Husband, & Merlin kitty

A week has passed! Time for your update, fine folk:

1. Work update: Chapter 1 is complete, and will be posted as soon as I finish writing this. As is the case with many, if not most, of these authors, I am a team of one - nothing fancy happening in production here. I have also been having some difficulty retaining my formatting when I upload work here. Thus, if you spot a formatting error (i.e., something that should be in italics but isn’t), please let me know. I am also in the process of searching for a cover artist - people like pretty things, and I would like my work to become one.

2. Syndication: As some of you may have noticed, I have joined a syndicate! Husband (and Merlin) and I sat down and reworked the budget so that I can afford a book a month. As periodic windfalls come in, I’ll be able to pre-order on my own as well, but otherwise, make yourself known to the Nomad Syndicate if you’re a fantasy author, and hopefully we can make some completely platonic and literary magic together!

3. Non-Inkshares Recommendation: As some of you may have noticed, each day I recommend one piece of work and review another book here on Inkshares. Given my rather weak financials, this is the way I feel I can best give back to the Inkshares community that has been so supportive thus far. However, to give you a little taste of what kind of books I’m into (and also what influences likely seep into my own work), I thought I’d give one non-Inkshares book recommendation per week. This week’s is my all-time favourite fantasy series: The Fionavar Tapestry, by Guy Gavriel Kay. I wish I had words to describe this trilogy properly, but I simply don’t. It is epic, magical, and yet extremely real. Although he typically writes historical fantasy, this high fantasy work will likely always remain my favourite by him.

4. We’ve gone into the double-digits in pre-orders! Yay! This is already staggering support as far as I’m concerned. Still, for those people to get their books, I have to shoot for more. If you’ve been waiting for more content before committing, keep your eyes open for new chapters coming out over the next few weeks (today included).

Thank you all, and best wishes!
-Chrissy

PS: Somehow I accidentally un-uploaded the Prologue while trying to get Chapter 1 up. Thus, the comments on the excerpts are missing. I’ve since figured out what I did wrong and fixed it, but I just wanted to clarify that this was not my intention, and I apologize to those who had left comments. I have them all saved in my e-mail!

And here it is - another author update to add to your likely ever-growing collection!

In all seriousness though, this is both an incredibly cool and terrifying experience, and I am thankful that you brave followers and Herculean pre-order folks have decided to join me.

I’ll be brief - a trait not particularly common to writers, but beaten into me mercilessly by the scientific community.

1. I will be updating this page weekly on Thursdays or Fridays, depending on how much said scientific community plops on my desk.

2. When it’s not a new chapter, you can expect bonus content - this will consist of little surprises from me, maybe in extra character backstories, vlogs ... who knows?

3. You’re all fantastic and if I haven’t followed you yet, send me a message and I will get my butt in gear.

Husband and Merlin say thank you too! These are two recurring characters in my own story, and they will likely show up in future updates. Merlin, for the record, is a kitty. He’s pretty cute.
